Living in Los Angeles means a variety of new kinds of unique food… particularly ice cream! As the Health Queen that I am, I’m always on the hunt for healthy-ish ice cream in Los Angeles that will satisfy my sweet tooth. Here are the best ice cream spots and brands based in LA. Enjoy!
Coconut Girl
Coconut Girl is of my favorite ice cream brands. I am forever astounded by Coconut Girl’s ability to make healthy ice cream sandwiches taste so dang good and make me feel so dang good, too. Find this gem at Whole Foods, Sunlife Organics, Erewhon Market, and many other places in California and beyond!
This paleo, vegan, gluten-free ice cream is truly 100% healthy. The sandwich is made out of dates and walnuts, while the thick, sweet ice cream center contains coconut milk and the unrefined sugar sweeteners of honey and maple syrup.
On top of the healthy ingredients, they are HUGE. I feel so satisfied after eating them. And these giant sandwiches are only 250 calories a pop. What-a-deal. Dig in, every day.
Wild Living Foods
On top of being a completely gluten-free, vegan restaurant, Wild Living Foods has an ice cream bar at the front of their shop and is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
All flavors are sweetened with agave. Choose from classic vanilla to peanut butter or even cookie dough and cinnamon roll! All healthy. All delicious. Did I mention deliciously nutritious toppings too? Definitely a perfect spot for healthy-ish ice cream in Los Angeles.
Salt and Straw
From honey lavender (Noah Centineo’s favorite) to the banana peanut butter brittle of The Elvis Presley, this popular West Coast joint contains some of the world’s most unique ice cream flavors. Almost all flavors are gluten-free, and over half are vegan.
Not to mention the free chocolate samples they give you as you walk in the store? Find this truly magical place at their locations all along the West Coast.
Pressed Juicery
Located all across the United States of Juiced America, Pressed Juicery goes beyond just healthy-ish ice cream in Los Angeles and has me as a regular wherever I travel. But don’t be fooled, they don’t just have juices. They have ice cream, too. Yep!
These “freezes” come in four scrumptious flavors: vanilla, chocolate, matcha, and strawberry. They are all paleo, gluten-free, and vegan and are made out of dates and almonds. Do yourself a favor and drizzle the chocolate sauce on top (made out of cacao powder and agave).
Halo Top
Halo Top actually has storefronts! These storefronts contain low-calorie frozen yogurt and seasonal flavors that are guaranteed to make your tastebuds dance.
They have vegan and gluten-free flavors, too. So you have no excuse to not visit this golden store. No storefronts near you? Not to worry! Halo Top is sold nationwide at your local, chain grocery stores on top of being one of my favorite places for healthy-ish ice cream in Los Angeles.
Amazebowls
I know, I know, it’s not technically “ice cream,” but hear me out. Going to college in LA, I have had my fair share of acai bowls, and Amazebowls knocks all of them out of the park. They can be found at USC, Smorgasburg, Downtown, and Santa Fe Farmer’s Market. No location near you? Use Uber Eats and Postmates!
Maybe it’s their fresh fruit, their colorful flavors, or their delicious homemade gluten-free granola and nut butter. Amazebowls is the most amazing acai place in LA. Hands down. Try it once and you will never go back! Definitely qualifies as healthy-ish ice cream in Los Angeles.
