Great Snacks To Treat Yourself With While on a Diet

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at U Mass Boston chapter.

There are so many snacks out there that often go unnoticed and needs some appreciation. We all snack occasionally every day so it’s very important to snack throughout the day because it appeases your thirst and prevents you from overeating, or eating too frequently. Although some believe snacking is bad behavior, there are some great benefits. Snacking helps you boost your metabolism and gives you energy. As well, it provides you with easy proteins and nutrients, needed throughout the day. Therefore, here is a list of my personal favorites – some of the best snack that is safe, especially if you are on a diet and working out.

1. Nature Valley (Granola Bar)

Personally, if you are dieting and working out, I recommend my #1 snack – Nature Valley granola bar. By far, this is my personal favorite. I remember through my journey of losing weight, I was doing an internship at State Street where the food at the cafeteria was very expensive and the vending machines were just filled with junk food, like Doritos, Cheetos, and similar fatty fat snacks. This granola bar was the only one that tasted good and only cost me $1.75. I didn’t mind that at all because it kept me satisfied and less hungry. It was perfect for the morning when I just needed a little energy push to keep me productive till it was the lunchtime.

2. Chocolate Cherry Granola Bars

Chocolate cherry granola bars are softer, gooier and have flavor than other granola bars. It can even make you feel like you’re cheating on your diet but keep calm, you are safe. You’re only incorporating a little flavor to your average granola bar. Therefore, it’s really not that bad. These granola bars cost about same amount as other granola bars. The best part of is that you can also make those at home. Here is a great recipe, from a fellow Spoon member, that I have tried a few times and I would personally recommend to all my friends.

3. Fiber One Bars

Now let’s look at the diet-friendly snack from the fibery side of things. Fiber One is a pretty popular snack and you might be familiar with it. Why do these fiber-filled bars have such an advantage? Well, their ingredients are made to contribute to the proper functioning of your metabolism. They are packed with nutrients. Fiber One offers a variety of cookies, cakes, and bars that not only taste so good, they are also healthy. You have a lot of flavors to chose from, such as citrus, lemon, chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter, and many others, helping you to take your snacking game to the next level.

4. Protein Pancakes

Now, let’s consider the snacks that you can make at home and you can go a little crazy with. Protein pancakes is the best example of that category. Usually, the pancakes are made of protein powder as the base, with fresh blueberries or strawberries added for freshness and flavor. By snacking on those, you’re getting your daily protein intake, the strength, and energy needed in the mornings. You don’t have to feel bad about eating them either. Don’t deprive yourself of eating deliciously tasting meals just because they look like good to your eye or taste heavenly.

5. Vanilla Caramel Protein Crepe

This snack is amazingly delicious and it can be eaten with various different toppings, like bananas, Nutella, chocolate, etc. The ingredients can vary but most of them are rather health. it’s mostly made of eggs, milk, oats, protein powder, vanilla swirl – how bad can that be? As for the topping, it really is up to you and your personal preferences. Make sure that you’re not missing out on some deliciously sounding toppings, just because the name tells you it’s bad for your diet. You just have to cook it right and change the ingredients a bit to it exciting and adventurous. Here is the recipe I tend to use. In the end, it’s healthy and it will taste good.

Now you have the tools to succeed in your attempts to diet. The last two snack options are the special treats and, perhaps, less expected. But you, surely, can go a little crazy with them. Just don’t kill yourself with boring snacks because you feel like you have to. Most healthy snack options don’t taste that good, but the ones mentioned above do. Try it for yourself and you’re welcome.
