7 Places to Eat in Tallahassee When You’re Feeling Boujee

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at FSU chapter.

Living in Tallahassee, college students have places in mind that they want their parents to take them when they are in town. These are places that they probably cannot or do not want to pay for on their own. These restaurants are also the known spots for locals in search of great atmospheres with great food. Getting to “eat boujee” is a lifestyle, and here’s how you can live it out.

Breakfast:

1. Canopy Road Cafe

Tallahassee’s breakfast hot spot, Canopy Road Cafe, is open daily from 6:30 am to 2:15 pm E. With nearly an hour wait on Sundays, the eventual bite into your breakfast or brunch of anything from omelets, to Belgian waffles, to specialty pancakes, to sandwiches and burgers is guaranteed to be a sweet treat to your taste buds. The magic of this brunch paradise is in the plating and photo potential. So head over to one of their multiple locations whenever you’re in the mood to eat boujee for breakfast.

2. Maple Street Biscuit Company

While it might not be too boujee at its price point, the taste of any order at Maple Street Biscuit Co. is a heavy masterpiece worth every calorie. Their menu boasts heavy- hitters such as The Five, a biscuit with juicy fried chicken, smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and their decadent sausage gravy. Their biscuits range from toppings such as fried chicken, various cheeses, bacon, pepper jelly, apple butter, spinach, red sauce, basil, and more. But they don’t stop there! They also offer waffles, crave-worthy oatmeal, savory sides, and multiple vegetarian options. This biscuit joint is the ultimate brunch stop for any and all food- lovers in your squad, but don’t expect to be hungry for a WHILE.

Lunch/Dinner:

3. Centrale

BENVENUTI! Welcome! To an Italian dining experience in the heart of College Town. Coupled with Madison Social, Magda’s, and Township, Centrale is devoted to a sit-down or delivery meal that spotlights pizza and wine. The boujee eats are accompanied by a boujee backdrop because this restaurant seems to have been decorated and designed by a talented professional with the intricate decor, a pleasing color tone, and a complimentary brick construction throughout. In any corner of the restaurant expect to find a set for your next Instagram shot. Centrale also offers a syllabus and sign up for their “Centrale Sommes,” a class to pursue an interest in learning and drinking wine. Does it get more boujee?

4. Cypress Restaurant

White tablecloths, seasonal craft cocktails, artistic plating, and high-end cuts of meat await you at Cypress Restaurant on East Tennessee Street. There are multiple menus for dinner, dessert, cheese, drinks, and a bar menu. Getting to dine at this spot would be a sweet treat with choices like the Sugar Cane Mopped Beef Ribeye (pictured), or shrimp and grits, and even grilled lamb chops. A personal favorite, the night ends in a choice of desserts including flourless chocolate cake, key lime cheesecake Brûlée, roasted strawberry and cream bread pudding, and a handful of other sweet dessert options.

5. The Edison

A surprisingly aesthetic and trendy play on Thomas Edison and the light bulb, The Edison Restaurant sits on the edge of Cascades Park and serves incredible Florida cuisine. Available for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner, The Edison is also above the Power Plant Cafe, which is an extension suited best for studying or lounging throughout the park. Dinner Entrees at The Edison range from $15 to $36 should you desire a boujee date night at a decent range of prices. The food, from experience, is served on fun variations of plating options and are expertly seasoned regardless of what you order.

6. Sage: A Restaurant

Where many of these mentioned restaurants focus on American or southern cuisine, Sage: A Restaurant is dedicated to European cuisine. The dishes are revolutionary in their richness, and the service is almost stuffy in their achieving the ultimate fine dining experience. With the cheapest dinner entree ringing in at $26, the experience comes at a higher price, but the food will be memorable.

#SpoonTip: If you have ever been to Paris and find yourself with a craving for a Croque Monsieur, they have them available on the bar menu here! So come and enjoy a glorified, inside- out grilled cheese and pretend you are just a couple of cobblestone streets away from the Eiffel Tower.

7. Table 23

My favorite splurge, Table 23 is a “southern porch, table, and bar” that does not disappoint. Located in Midtown Tallahassee, Table 23 is a popular college birthday location where friends typically enjoy supper with the ’23 Burger’ or my favorite, the pecan-crusted chicken with sweet potato mash. The ambiance is that of an old southern baseball mom’s dream house. While supper is fun and yummy, the restaurant is open for lunch and Sunday brunch as well with a full bar. The savory comfort food of the South is strong at this establishment and is my favorite place to eat boujee.
