The Best Food Trucks to Hit Up in Austin

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Texas chapter.

With food truck parks scattering the city, these restaurants on wheels have become an Austin staple. They are quick and generally cheap, it is a great way to get a taste of what Austin has to offer; great food. Whether you are visiting or here to stay, here are some of the best food trucks in Austin to make sure you get to.

Mighty Cone

One of many Austin success stories is the mighty cone. These spicy cones were made to be a portable meal at the annual music festival, Austin City Limits (ACL). They start with a tortilla, add slaw and your choice of fried goodies. To top it off the add their special creamy sauce. Choose between crispy shrimp, chicken or avocado

Valentina’s Tex-Mex BBQ

For some of the best tacos around, this drive is worth it. Get your Tex-Mex and bbq fix all in one with their brisket tacos. It’s listed as one of the top 50 bbq joints in Texas according to Texas Monthly. Remember, no Tex-Mex meal is complete without a side of queso.

Dee Dee

This little Thai food truck is tucked away on Austin’s East side. Most of the dishes pack some heat so if you like spicy food this is the place for you. You’ll want to save the best for last and finish your meal with the mango sticky rice, don’t forget the Thai iced tea.

The Big Kahuna

Hawaiian food in Austin is hard to come by but this food truck takes us straight to the islands. Generally, the meals consist of your choice of meat like poké or bulgogi beef with fluffy white rice, veggies and a sauce. They are sure to be bright and ready for your gram.

Patrizi’s

The strong Italian vibes at patrizis are the real deal. They share the outdoor space with a bar, make sure you go when they have a show. The pasta and sauces are hose made so you know it is fresh. House made pasta with a show, and a bar, what more could you need?

Biscuits and Groovy

Your tastebuds will be dancing to the beat after you eat these groovy biscuits. They have menu items in tune to the musical theme like the Aretha Franklin and MC hammer. The vegan option is a great choice as well.

Austin is filled with exiting restaurants and food trucks around every corner. These food trucks are a start but there are many other choices when it comes to your culinary adventures in Austin.

I like food and taking pictures of food.
