All the Classic Sour Patch Kids Flavors, Ranked by Taste

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at MSU chapter.

I have a serious sweet tooth, and I’m really opinionated. So you could say that it’s kind of my passion and my unofficial job to tell people about my favorite types of dessert. First, I told you guys about my favorite DQ treats, and now I’m onto another one of my faves that I grew up with. Let me tell you a little bit about the best Sour Patch Kids flavors, because I can.

I love sour candy. There’s nothing quite like the pucker of your lips and the watering of your mouth when you eat it. But of all the sour candy in the world, there’s something special about Sour Patch Kids

First things first, let’s all take a moment to acknowledge that the absolute best Sour Patch Kids candy is the watermelon gummies. I don’t know what they put in those gummies that make them so delicious and somehow different than the Kids, but nine times out of ten, I’ll get the watermelon gummies. However, since those are technically fruit-shaped and not kid-shaped, I didn’t include them in my rankings.

Without further ado, here’s the definitive ranking of the original Sour Patch Kids flavors from worst to best.

5. Lime

Green means go, meaning go away and find a better flavor. Lime is already not one of my favorite artificial flavors, but this lime kid is almost bland compared to the other flavors. However, I’ll still eat green Sour Patch Kids because throwing away a Sour Patch Kid is such a waste.

4. Lemon

Yellow is clearly lemon, since a banana-flavored sour candy would be kind of gross. Lemon is the classic sour flavor, which makes it less appealing. Of course there’s going to be a lemon flavor in a bag of sour candy. This flavor is doing too much, but at the same time not enough.

3. Orange

Orange is a good middle flavor. It’s not very creative, but at the same time it’s a good foundation for candies. Everyone likes a good orange flavor, so you can’t go wrong with this Sour Patch Kid.

2. Cherry

Red was close to coming in first. I usually don’t like cherry as an artificial flavor because it tends to taste like cough medicine. But this Sour Patch Kid flavor is no where close to tasting like medicine. Do yourself a favor and pick all the red Sour Patch Kids out of the bag before you share with your friends.

1. Blue Raspberry

I love this blue raspberry flavor. My boyfriend once made the mistake of sharing a bag of Sour Patch Kids with me, and I ate all of the blue ones and handed him back the bag. Do I feel bad? No. Blue Sour Patch Kids are delicious.

No matter what Sour Patch Kids flavor you think is the best, we can all agree that Sour Patch Kids are the best sour candies out there.
