The New York Mets invited me to attend their food preview event for the 2018 season. This was by far my greatest experience as a self-proclaimed foodie. It combined my two favorite things—the New York Mets and food from the best vendors in New York City.
I have been a Mets fan since I was born and attended numerous Mets games over the years. The food has always been a highlight of each experience. This year, Chef Patrick Schaeffer and the Mets have taken the food choices and quality to a whole new level to include some of the hottest food trends.
The Mets food menu is loaded with flavor and excitement. There are so many great options including last year’s fan favorites such as Shake Shack, David Chang’s Fuku, and DŌ. Just when you thought those were enough, Smorgasburg’s Baked Cheese House, Wowfulls and Nas’ Sweet Chick are great new additions to the Citi Field menu.
To maximize your culinary experience at Citi Field, don’t miss some of these awesome options.
Shake Shack
Shake Shack is one of the most iconic restaurants at Citi Field. Its lines are always the longest, and fans can’t get enough of their burgers and shakes. It never disappoints.
I tried the SmokeShack, which is a cheeseburger with smoked bacon, chopped cherry peppers and ShackSauce. The bacon gave it a great smoked flavor and the peppers added a bit of a tang. The combination gave it an extra flavor that enhances your regular ShackBurger.
Baked Cheese Haus
Baked Cheese Haus is a great place to get your cheese fix at Smorgasburg, and now at Citi Field. The gooey, cheesy goodness of Raclette was a great addition to the Mets 2018 menu. Hot cheese and gherkins over sausage elevates the typical ballpark hot dog to a whole new level.
Fuku
Fuku, with numerous locations across New York City, by Chef David Chang, is a great pick if you want an upgrade to standard stadium food. They have a Spicy Chicken Sandwich with their Fuku Butter Sauce. In addition, they have fries loaded with spicy cheese sauce, ranch, bacon, and scallions. Sorry Nathan’s, but they one-upped you here.
Sweet Chick
Sweet Chick, co-owned by Rapper Nas, is another great addition to the 2018 Citi Field menu. Now, you can have chicken and waffles and enjoy a Met game at the same time. Their chicken and waffles is one of my favorite food items in the ballpark. It is a sweet and savory snack that melts in your mouth. They have amazing fried chicken sandwiches as well. The true test to see which is best is to try both for yourself.
Wowfulls
Another classic Smorgasburg dessert place with the longest lines, especially when it gets hot during summer. If you haven’t already, be sure to try one of these Hong Kong Egg Waffles with ice cream. This Strawberry Fields Wowfull was topped with strawberry ice cream, french toast cereal, and strawberry covered sticks.
DŌ
Perhaps the most popular dessert currently at Citi Field will be back again for another year. No more need to worry about dripping ice cream when you’re eating a cup of edible cookie dough. In addition to Cake Batter and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, DŌ will be rotating three more flavors of edible cookie dough into their Citi Field lineup. These flavors include Cookies and Cream, Peanut Butter Brownie, and 7th Inning Stretch, signiture dough with peanuts and cracker jacks. Perfect for a day at the ballpark!
Citi Field has some of the best eats in New York and all of Major League Baseball. I would like to thank the MLB, the New York Mets, and Citi Field for inviting me to this event. Even if this list doesn’t suit your tastebud, there are plenty more choices on the Citi Field menu. The culinary options are truly a home run.
