Krispy Kreme and Jelly Belly, are two companies that dominate their fields, doughnuts and jellybeans respectively. So, why not combine the two to create an ultimate dynamic duo? Well, Krispy Kreme and Jelly Belly already have. Krispy Kreme x Jelly Belly jellybeans come in five flavors: Cinnamon Apple Filled, Glazed Blueberry Cake, Strawberry Iced, Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles, and Original Glazed. They can easily be ordered from Amazon or the Jelly Belly website for a reasonable price. I ordered a box to sample all five options and was impressed by the accuracy of the flavors.
Cinnamon Apple Filled
This jellybean first hits you with cinnamon and then apple immediately after. The cinnamon flavor is divine, but the apple flavor comes off as an artificial, tart green apple, rather than a natural apple taste you would find in a cinnamon apple filling. The aesthetic of the jellybean is beautiful, with a light caramel color speckled with darker brown spots of cinnamon. It isn’t the best jellybean I’ve ever tasted, but it holds true to its promise of cinnamon flavor.
Glazed Blueberry Cake
Although not my favorite flavor, the glazed blueberry cake jellybean was my favorite in terms of its exterior. A light caramel color with specks of dark blue and a shimmering overcoat truly made the jellybean look like a glazed blueberry cake. When you first bite into the jellybean, you get an immediate punch of blueberry and then a subtle caramel flavor aftertaste that is present in most of the jellybeans. This flavor definitely calls to mind the taste of a yeasty, sweet doughnut.
Strawberry Iced
This pink jellybean is the exact color of the pink icing that drapes over Krisy Kreme strawberry iced doughnuts, but it does not replicate the exact flavor of a doughnut. The jellybean tastes like artificial strawberry, kind of like strawberry icing, but not in the right way. However, despite the shortcomings of the strawberry flavor, there is an impressive, subtle hint of doughnut flavor.
Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles
This jellybean looks like a chocolate iced doughnut with sprinkles and also tastes like a chocolate iced doughnut with sprinkles. The dark brown jellybean is speckled with dots of all different colors, and when you bite into it, you get the EXACT same flavor as chocolate icing. It doesn’t just taste like chocolate, it tastes like chocolate icing. This flavor definitely wins in accuracy.
Original Glazed
The original glazed held my highest expectations because it’s the classic flavor. The shimmering exterior of the jellybean makes it look like a glazed doughnut, but the taste does not resemble the doughnut as well as the look does. The jellybean tastes generally sweet and could be compared to caramel. The original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut does not have much flavor other than sweet and sugary, so this Jelly Belly fits the bill well enough.
I am not usually a jellybean fan, especially the odd flavored ones, but these Krispy Kreme x Jelly Belly jellybeans were impressive. I don’t feel the need to order them again, but I would recommend trying them if you’re even slightly interested. The doughnut flavors were remarkably accurate and could be a quick fix to a Krispy Kreme craving when the real doughnuts aren’t accessible.
