Sip Coffee From the Roaring 20s at Caffé Vittoria

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at BU chapter.

If you have ever strolled through North End, you can’t miss Caffé Vittoria, the oldest Italian cafe to exist in Boston. Built in 1929, the cafe is conveniently located along Hanover Street, in front of Daily Catch and next to Mike’s Pastry. This place is perfect for when you want to have a classic Italian cuisine experience.

Vintage vibes

As I stepped through the glass double doors, the lively indoor decor immediately transported me back to the past.

With espresso machines and antiques adorning the entire cafe and soft jazz music playing softly in the background, there’s a certain charm that makes you want to kick back, relax, and enjoy your coffee.

Hidden gem filled with secrets

I was curious as to why there are two sides linked together after snaking through the entire cafe. The manager, Armando, explained that Caffé Vittoria has two entrances, with the one on the right side of the building being the original cafe. With an influx of locals and tourists alike, they expanded to the left side of the building but kept the same concept alive.

Coppa di Joe

To the population of coffee-lovers, I give a personal two thumbs up for their famous cappuccino, so you have to give Caffé Vittoria a try.

Even if you’re not an avid coffee fan, there’s no reason for you not to frequent this place because they serve an array of tea, liquor, and desserts too. The cafe undoubtedly offers something for everyone.

Sweet treats to tame your tastebuds

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Caffé Vittoria is also famous for its tiramisu. I understand the hype now because the light mascarpone and sponge cake on the bottom blended so well.

I also ordered the fruit tart, and red velvet cheesecake. The fruit tart was fresh, accompanied with light, creamy creme patisserie and a delicate crust.

The red velvet cheesecake had the perfect ratio of sweetness and mild, salty cream cheese aftertaste. Overall, it was delectable for not being overly sweet.

Fun-fact:

Check out the porcelain espresso machine in a clear case near the front of the entrance. Armando said that there are only 2 in the world ever made, and the other twin is in Europe.

Pro-tip for students:

This place has an affordable price range and it’s worth it! However, it gets busy on all days of the week, so try to prevent from studying and staying for too long.

One last thing

This cafe is cash only. Not to worry, because there are a number of banks to withdraw cash from along Hanover Street.

Your experience in North End wouldn’t be complete without grabbing a cup of cappuccino and a slice of tiramisu from this charismatic cafe!.
