College Students Rejoice! Texas Honey Ham is Back.

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Texas chapter.

The month of March 2014 was a dark, dark time for Austin. Austinites woke up the morning of Saturday, March 8 to the tragic news they had never hoped to hear: Texas Honey Ham & Co. was closed for business.

The small Westlake Hills restaurant had been robbed and set on fire early Saturday morning, causing heavy damage to the restaurant. Regrettably, Honey Ham would be closed until further notice.

As someone who was suddenly deprived of the divine gift that is Honey Ham, the past few months were hard. Although Austin is definitely not lacking in good tacos, things just weren’t quite the same without Honey Ham. No one does tacos better.

There is still good in this world though, because as of September 6, Honey Ham is BACK.

Yes y’all. We are once again blessed with the deliciousness that is Honey Ham.

The Details

A large portion of UT students are unfamiliar with Texas Honey Ham, since it is about a 10-15 minute drive from campus. However, that drive is worth it.

Texas Honey Ham Co.’s menu is centered around its name, offering honey-glazed hams of all different sizes, ranging from 7-1o lbs. They also have a dine-in menu that involves sandwiches and general breakfast goodness.

The Food

As previously stated, I’m all about those breakfast tacos. Pictured below: a breakfast taco on flour with signature honey ham, bacon and cheese. However, with over a dozen taco-filling options to choose from, feel free to experiment to your heart’s content.

If you’re looking for something sweeter, I’d recommend the “Pig in a Blanket,” which is tender, flavorful meat wrapped in a fluffy pancake with syrup drizzled on top.

Finally, one of Honey Ham’s signature breakfast meals is the “Breakfast Roll,” a grilled dough roll with fried egg, cheese and your choice of meat. Are you drooling yet?
