Sandwiches are one of the world’s most versatile foods. Who doesn’t love a good sandwich? I sure do! That is why I have set out on a mission to find the best sandwiches in Boston, for all hours of the day, in all shapes and forms, throughout the neighborhoods of Boston. To all my fellow sandwich lovers, I hope this sparks some fun food adventures.
Somerville- Our first stop on this journey of the best sandwiches in Boston
Breakfast: Magnificent Muffin & Bagel Shoppe
Magnificent Muffin & Bagel Shoppe, or Mag Muf for short, is the quintessential quick, cheap breakfast sandwich spot. You get a meat, egg, and cheese sandwich for $4 (I suggest getting it on a cinnamon raisin bagel)! It has a very local, casual vibe so on weekend mornings there’s bound to be a line. Don’t fret though, they are very efficient! I’ve never had to wait more than 8 minutes to get my food.
Lunch: Dave’s Fresh Pasta
Walking into this adorable, local deli and market makes you feel like you are in a small european grocery store. On the left is an entire fresh pasta counter with noodles and penne galore. On the right is the market with tables full of international sweets, fresh produce, and other little bites. But the main attraction is right when you walk in, the deli. While it’s namesake identifies it as a pasta shop, it is the sandwiches and wraps that are to die for. People come from all over to get a Dave’s sandwich made with fresh baked bread and fresh ingredients. I am from Santa Monica, California, so to any of my LA readers this place is the Somerville equivalent to Bay Cities, only cuter and smaller. I highly recommend the Turkey & Cheddar sandwich which is amazing just as is on the menu, but also is delicious switching out the honey mustard for chipotle mayo.
Dinner: Redbones Barbecue
Take a step back in time as you walk through the doors of this iconic Somerville spot. Renowned for it’s delicious BBQ, this all time favorite has a little best kept secret. Their fried chicken sandwich is to die for. Served on a fresh bun with homemade slaw and a side of hot fresh cut fries, and most importantly the perfect juicy golden fried chicken.
