Lebron James Could Win Free Tacos For America, Proving He Really is the GOAT

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at IU chapter.

Even if you’re not a fan of basketball and don’t typically keep up with the NBA Finals, I guarantee you’ll commit a certain level of dedication to the competition this year. Wondering why? Two words: free tacos.

For the second year in a row, Taco Bell is teaming up with the NBA for the “Steal a Game, Steal a Taco” promotion. For each of the seven games that are played, every taco-lover (and hater) in America has a chance to win a free Doritos Locos Taco.

Have Your Taco (And Eat It, Too)

Beginning on Thursday, June 1, you’ll have to start paying some sort of attention to the NBA Finals. For those of you who don’t know, it’s the Cleveland Cavaliers versus the Golden State Warriors, aka Lebron James versus Stephen Curry, for yes, the third year in a row — an NBA first!

If you’re not a fan of basketball, don’t worry — you don’t even have to watch the games actually. However, you do need to keep tabs on which team wins each game, and whether or not they’re the away team — this is key to winning free tacos. In order for all of America to win a Doritos Locos Taco, the away team must “steal” (or win) the game from the home team. Abandon any and all loyalty you have to the Cavs or the Warriors because free tacos are what’s really important here.

The Rules for Winning

So to get down to the nitty-gritty, here’s which team has to win (and when) for you to win, too, according to the official NBA Finals schedule. You have two shots:

The Cavs need to win Game 1 or Game 2, or the Warriors need to win Game 3 for you to steal a Doritos Locos Taco on Tuesday, June 13, from 2 to 6 pm local time.

Then, if the Warriors win Game 4 or Game 6, or the Cavs win Game 5 or Game 7, you get a taco on Tuesday, June 20 from 2 to 6 pm local time.

And if that’s just too much to follow, Taco Bell will let you know by announcing the free tacos on social media, also.

Kerry Tatlock, Senior Vice President of the NBA said, “Having fans root for the competing teams as well as for a chance to win a free taco brings even more excitement [to the Finals].” Yes, as someone who isn’t a huge fan of basketball, I definitely agree that the chance to win a free taco does bring more excitement. Winning a two dollar taco isn’t anything major, to say the least, but free food is free food.

During Taco Bell’s first “Steal a Game, Steal a Taco” promotion last year, taco-lovers across the country won free tacos after the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers during Game 4.

Even if you don’t like sports, I’m sure you can rally around a free taco. This isn’t just any free taco, either — this is a mouth tingling, soul-touching Doritos-taco hybrid sent down from the heavens. Add the fact that a win for LeBron James means a win for you, well, you’ve basically struck gold.
