The American Club is Wisconsin’s Most Luxurious Getaway

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Saint Marys chapter.

Finding a prime place for recreation and relaxation is hard to find in the midwest, but fortunately for you, the state of Wisconsin has just the place. Destination Kholer Resort is well-known for its signature American Club. The American Club Resort has a Forbes Five-Star and AAA 5-diamond rating.

Here’s a little background on the place: “The resort now includes four award-winning Championship golf courses at Whistling Straits® and Blackwolf Run®. It’s also home to nine distinctive restaurants, boutique shops and Kohler Waters Spa – one of only 47 spas in the world to claim Forbes Five Star distinction.” I began my spring break at The American Club with my mom for three days and two nights, and checked-in to the Carriage House, home to the Kohler Waters Spa.

The Ambiance and Amenities

Upon arrival, you are greeted and offered either a mimosa or sparkling champagne. Pictured below is my welcome drink. The room we had was decked out in Kohler products including a jacuzzi tub with jets, obviously the toilet, and three sinks within our room.

Let me tell you about cushy…the customer service was unbelievable, as well as the spa services. My mom opted for a custom massage and I treated myself to a facial. Both services went well above our expectations. We decided to take the Kohler Factory Design Tour, too, because it was included with our stay. Talk about worth it.

The Major Selling Point: Gourmet Food

Since we stayed at the Carriage House, we had breakfast, afternoon tea, and cocktail hour included. Breakfast consisted of the usual fruit, yogurt, bagels, salmon, cereal, and toast. Cocktail hour had unlimited wine (both white and red), beer, and an array of hors d’oeuvres. Pictured above is the afternoon plate I put together, with mini cucumber sandwich bites, macaroons, and strawberries and cream (accompanied by organic mint tea and a book for leisure).

The following day I went to the Craverie Chocolatier Café for lunch one day at The Shops at Woodlake. I ordered a 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 salad combo, a turkey, bacon, havarti, & arugula sandwich with a Cobb Salad.

The following day for lunch, we went to Blackwolf Run’s restaurant, which has a breathtaking view. I ordered the corn sausage chowder made with corn, pork sausage, potatoes and onions. On a cold March day, the hearty soup hit the spot.

This stuffed cheese steak sandwich I tried had slow-roasted beef and pork tips, onions, mushrooms, tri-colored peppers, cheddar and swiss (both bombin’ Wisconsin cheeses), and roasted red pepper mayonnaise, all on a tuscan roll all with beer battered french fries. It was not like any cheese steak I’ve ever had; imagine a bread bowl but with melted cheese on the bottom, filled with meat and topped with more cheese and the mayo…you’re drooling, I know

The American Club won my little heart over with all that it had to offer, making it one of the most memorable spring break trips to date. I would love to come back again soon – a girl’s gotta treat herself to gourmet food and facials pretty regularly, right?
