Eugene’s Best Spot for Belgian-Inspired Waffles

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Oregon chapter.

You’ve never had a good waffle ’til you’ve tasted Off the Waffle’s gourmet Liege (pronounced LEE-AGE) waffles. Available at two locations in Eugene, their version of a Belgian-style breakfast is loaded with pairings and flavors galore.

Liege waffles are thick, rich and incredibly filling. The recipe combines pearl sugar melted into the cooking process, lending its waffles a caramelized and crunchy texture. So perfectly sweetened, Maple syrup is not required!

Who can resist a waffle topped with (in no particular order or combo): fresh fruit, whipped cream, bacon, avocado, egg, gouda, Havarti, gorgonzola, maple syrup and a plethora of other fresh toppings to create sweet, savory and the everything in-between kind of creations one has to try to believe?

And so we did–more than once of course.

On a recent visit to the downtown location, they were serving two springtime specials along with the popular daily menu items.

Special #1: The Vanessa

Liege waffle topped with strawberries, goat cheese and decorated with just enough real maple syrup. Need I say more? A sweet, golden caramelized waffle smeared with tasty goat cheese and fresh, local strawberries. A paradise pairing for the fruit-topping lovers!

Special #2: The Innocent Bystander

Liege waffle, sliced ham, tomato, Havarti, two eggs, spinach and a side of Tzatziki topped with basil. Comprised of all my food groups, this combo is an ultimate filler.

The atmosphere of the original location (840 Willamette Street) is a bit more spacious and relaxed. It’s super chill and laid back with wall decor by local artists and light fixtures made from Mason jars. Its second location offers more booth seating and is a cozier dining experience. Orders are made at the counter and meals are delivered hot and fresh to your table.

Both locations offer an endless selection of breakfast combinations sure to satisfy any appetite. Not hungry? Accommodating a friend? Grab a drink to enjoy during your visit. They have several types of herbal teas, espresso, freshly squeezed juices and booze. Yes, booze, for you age-appropriate folks. You heard right.

Stop by and satisfy your most wild craving!
