The History Behind this Amazing Day

It all started in 1979, which marked the first ever Free Cone Day. This mouthwatering day has thankfully been celebrated every year since. “It was our way of thanking everyone for all the love and support they showed us that first year of business in a renovated petrol station in Burlington, Vermont,” says Ben and Jerry’s CEO, Jostein Solheim. Ben and Jerry’s say they give away over a million scoops every single year.

Making a Difference

Not only will Ben and Jerry’s be dishing out free ice cream, but they’ll also be supporting many local non-profit organizations. Several of their flavors pay it forward by helping farmers, communities, and the environment. So not only will you treat yourself on Free Cone Day, you’ll also be supporting great causes around the world.

All Ben and Jerry’s sugar, cocoa, vanilla, coffee, and bananas are Fairtrade Certified, which means they support small-scale farmers in developing nations. Ben and Jerry’s also uses eggs from certified humane, cage-free farms, milk from cooperative farmers, who are dedicated to raising happy cows, and all flavors contain 100% non-GMO ingredients. There’s no reason to feel guilty about this indulgence.

Free Cone Day is being celebrated in participating Scoop Shop locations worldwide between 12pm and 8pm, so no judgment if you hit up your local scoop shop more than once. Make sure you check out their website to see the nearest participating scoop shop near you and be sure to save room for dessert.
