Top 7 Foodie Films

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at South Carolina chapter.

Forget basic rom-coms, thrillers, and dramas. These food-filled films are packed with juicy story lines and some of the best on-screen meals that give even the Food Network a run for its money.

7. Eat, Pray, Love

Based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s epic memoir, this movie stars Julia Roberts taking a soul-searching trip around the world. Her stop in Italy is pasta-filled…and it is so, so good.

6. Fried Green Tomatoes

This classic, set in a scandalous South, revolves around happenings at the Whistle Stop Cafe. Check out Fannie Flagg’s novel for even more fried fun.

5. Chocolat

This steamy romance features Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche, as well as, you guessed it, some decadent chocolates. And hello, what’s more delicious than Johnny Depp?

4. Big Night

Not only does Stanley Tucci give a stellar performance as an Italian immigrant struggling to open a restaurant with his brother, but the final meal sequence will have you craving risotto all night long.

3. Julie & Julia

Based on a true story, it follows the career of Julia Child and her influence on the work and life of food blogger Julie Powell. Trust me, you’ll have the urge to cook your way through a French cookbook, too.

2. Ratatouille

Okay, so the idea of a rat in the kitchen befriending a chef who can’t cook doesn’t exactly sound like the best story line. But Disney and Pixar’s animated film is filled with French cuisine and lovable characters.  Bon appetit!

1. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

While there is an on-going argument as to whether the Tim Burton adaptation of Roald Dahl’s story trumps this 1971 classic, there is no denying that this candy-coated world is Oompa-Loompa-doo-pe-deelicious.
