What the New Eugene Whole Foods Wants Us to Know

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Oregon chapter.

The new Eugene Whole Foods opened its doors in late September to a crowd of excited shoppers. Located on East Broadway, this new location is a hub for fresh food, fun events, and healthy living. We always give feedback to stores, but what do THEY want US to know, as consumers? To answer this question, I interviewed their Marketing and Communications Liaison, and here is what the WF would like Eugene community members to know.

For Students

There is currently a pilot program in place at the Eugene Whole Foods designating discount days for students. Every Tuesday students of the U of O, Lane, Pacific U., and NW Christian can show their valid student ID to receive 10% off the total purchase (excluding alcohol and gift cards). This program is in the test phase to “weigh out the checks and balances” but will at least run through the end of this academic year. TGIF? More like TGIWFT (Thank God it’s Whole Foods Tuesday)!

The WF store brand is 365. It has an “extremely valuable” price point with the same quality standards as all of the rest of the products in the stores. 365 products do not contain high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors or flavors. This means less time staring at labels and more time staring at that sexy vegan perusing the peaches.

Non-Profit Engagement

Bag Donation Program – Shoppers can choose to get a 10 cent-per-bag credit off of their bill or to donate it. The store chooses two recipients of those donations per quarter. During the opening quarter they were the Eugene Education Foundation and the Springfield Education Foundation. Through its various programs, Whole Foods aims to form partnerships and create involvement between local organizations.

Every WF does four 5% days per year. These are days where 5% of the net sales are donated to a specified organization. This store did eight in their first eight weeks! Their large grand opening allowed them to work with four non-profits and four local schools with gardens.

Events

January 25th – Working Women’s Wednesday

January 30th – Baby Boot Camp’s Mom’s Night Out

Watch out for other fun events such as college mixers and blood drives.

Also, any organized group can schedule a tour of the store to learn more about tips and tricks to make the WF shopping experience as enjoyable and effortless as possible.
