These 19 Musicians Are Sober and Proud of It

When you picture the lives of your favorite famous singers you might imagine them popping bottles of champagne after their sold out concerts or drinking Grey Goose at A-List parties. However, not all musicians drink alcohol. 

In fact, here is a list of performers that don’t drink at all, which which challenge society’s alcohol-soaked stereotypes of rock stars and famous singers.

1. Lana Del Rey

Lana was sent to boarding school at age 15 in order to get sober and has been sober ever since.

2. Shania Twain

Twain never drinks or smokes and is also a vegetarian. 

3. Tyler, the Creator

Tyler, The Creator lives a lifestyle free from drugs and alcohol and identifies as “straight-edge.”

4. Eminem

After almost dying from a drug overdose, the rapper decided to clean up his act. He now abstains from alcohol and drugs.

5. Chris Martin

Chris Martin, Coldplay’s lead singer, doesn’t drink alcohol or coffee.

6. Jennifer Lopez

J. Lo steers clear of alcohol because it is bad for her skin. She told InStyle that she does occasionally take a sip or two if she needs to make a toast because “you can’t toast with water!”

7. Jennifer Hudson

In 2013, Hudson told Chelsea Handler that she has “never had a drink in her life.” She simply has never been interested in drugs or alcohol. 

8. Tim McGraw

This country singer made the decision to be sober for his daughters.

9. Keith Urban

Urban announced on Ellen in 2010 that he was sober because he wanted to put his family first.

10. Elton John

Elton John claims that his greatest accomplishment in life is getting sober.

11. Ringo Starr

Starr has said that he wasted the years after The Beatles in “an alcoholic haze.” He is now adamantly sober.

12. Alice Cooper

Cooper says that he drinks soda at bars instead of alcohol which helps him stay sober.

13. Steven Tyler

Tyler has been open about his struggles with addiction and his road to recovery. He now abstains from drugs and alcohol.

14. Neil Young

Young decided to become sober in 2011 because he wanted to be more alert and he was curious about what sobriety would feel like. 

15. Florence Welch

The lead singer of Florence and the Machine admitted that she used to drink before every concert, but told the San Diego Tribune in 2015, “but what I get now on stage, without drinking, is this clarity and feeling the performance in every way. I haven’t drunk on stage for years now.”

16. Katy Perry

Katy Perry was fully sober for three months after divorcing Russell Brand and now although she doesn’t drink cocktails, she does occasionally indulge in a glass of wine.

17. Eric Clapton

Clapton has been sober for almost 30 years and wrote very frankly about his struggles with addiction in his memoir, Clapton.

18. Leona Lewis

Lewis hates the taste of alcohol so she simply does not drink it.

19. Brandon Flowers

The lead singer of The Killers is devout Mormon and openly sober.
