5 Fresh Takes on Your Favorite Holiday Food

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UGA chapter.

As we’re busting out those jackets from the back of our closet, or running to Starbucks to try their newly-released chestnut praline latte, there’s a few other cold-weather trends sweeping feeds everywhere. These five unique twists on holiday food staples are definitely worth a try!

1. Iced Pumpkin Spice

We know the epitome of the season is in the pumpkin spice latte. While we’ve fawned over Instagram-worthy photos of steam rising from a piping hot mug of this delectable drink, if the weather’s a bit too warm for your liking or you live in the South, try asking for an iced version of the PSL. Trust me, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

2. Apple Chips

These apple chips are light, tangy, and sweet. Instead of opting for a heavy and steaming pie or caramel-covered apple, try this healthier and daintier option. These chips can also be recreated with just about any holiday food, including sweet potatoes

3. Cold Turkey

If you’re stuck eating leftovers for days after this holiday, this recipe combines all the favorites of a Christmas dinner (cranberries, turkey, and home-cooked vegetables) served cool and refreshed. Looking for a savory and chilled holiday dish? Try serving up traditional flavors such as nuts, meat, and apples in the form of a fresh salad or satisfying sandwich.

4. Sweet Potato with a Kick
