Where to Eat in Boston If You Are Stuck at School For Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Northeastern chapter.

Not everyone is able to make it home from college for the Thanksgiving holiday. Some students live too far away, have responsibilities on campus or just do not celebrate the holiday, thus having no reason to travel home.

At Northeastern specifically, students are only given a five day break, making travel difficult for international students. Have no fear though! Boston turns out to be one of the best cities to be in to eat a Thanksgiving meal, regardless of your budget.

The Beehive

The Beehive will provide a little more variety on Thanksgiving than most restaurants. Their menu features truffled mushroom soup, lobster risotto and bourbon pecan pie.

They even offer a vegetarian Thanksgiving meal with an incredible kale stuffing. This up and coming, hip Boston spot is the place to be on Thanksgiving day.

Average price: $65 for 3-course

Boston Chops

Boston Chops does Thanksgiving right. They specialize in the array of sauces they offer: bordelaise, bearnaise, creamy horseradish and chimichurri butter. Despite their typical Thanksgiving offerings, the herb brioche stuffing and roasted sweet potato mash with maple alone are worth coming for.

Don’t forget to make reservations here, or you might loose your chance at getting a table.

They will be offering a four-course prix fixe menu with ingredients from local sources including Misty Knoll Farms Vermont turkey. The dinner also comes with free admission to the skywalk observatory located on the 50th floor.

Joe’s American Bar and Grill

This may be the best deal you can get in town. For $27, you get a three-course meal with choices that include homemade fall corn chowder, apple cranberry cobbler and pumpkin caramel cheesecake.

And that isn’t even mentioning the main course that comes with all the classics: turkey, stuffing, potatoes, brussels sprouts, squash, cranberry sauce and gravy.

Legal Seafood

Most people come to Legal for the damn fresh seafood, however on Thanksgiving you will want to come for another reason. All locations throughout Boston will be serving up a traditional Thanksgiving meal, with a little spin. They will have everything from stuffed turkey to stuffed lobster. It’s a Thanksgiving meal you will never forget.

Make sure to call three days in advance to order your peking duck. It is served whole, and for $45, you get a three-course duck meal that can serve up to three people. It is definitely the place to be if you are craving duck for Thanksgiving.

Papa Razzi

Papa Razzi on Newbury Street is serving a reasonably priced ($28.95) two-course Thanksgiving meal this year. Although their full dinner menu will still be available (  am a sucker for the Tortelloni All’aragosta), their roasted turkey and Yukon Gold mashed potatoes should not be missed.

Mike’s City Diner

Mike’s has been a Boston favorite for more than 17 years and even got a visit from Guy Fieri on his hit show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. They serve up huge portions of mouth-watering comfort food and it is the perfect place to spend a relaxed and comfortable Thanksgiving holiday. One of the menu items they are best known for is their turkey dinner and their Pilgrim sandwich.

The sandwich has all the best parts of Thanksgiving: fresh roasted turkey, homemade cranberry sauce and warm stuffing and topped with gravy, on a massive roll. Even the owner, Hajj, says “The sandwich and the roasted turkey is how we built our name.”
