National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day may be August 4, but chocolate chip cookies are too good to be celebrated only one day a year. Thankfully, there are tons of great bakeries in New York City that have us all covered—covered in chocolate chip cookie heaven, that is.
Forget over-the-top milkshakes and rolled ice cream, chocolate chip cookies are a dessert staple. They’ve been a beloved classic for decades for one very good reason, people: the fact that they are simply delicious. Really, nothing is better than an ooey, gooey, warm, melty chocolate chip cookie.
So what are you waiting for? Go out and get what you want.
1. Maman NYC
Going beyond your typical chocolate chip flavor, this cookie incorporates macadamia nuts, walnuts, almonds and sea salt, which all add up the perfect level of crunch. Not to mention they’re baked fresh daily and are unbelievably soft and gooey.
2. Schmackary’s
They’re crunchy and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside—just how I like it. Stop here and pick up any of Schmackary’s well-known frosting-topped cookies (including a cookie dough spread) to satisfy your cookie cravings.
3. Levain Bakery
If a picture is worth a thousand words, this one requires no explanation.
4. Dominique Ansel Bakery
Deep in the heart of Soho lies a bakery that made hybrid desserts a thing. With this milk and cookie shot, you can get the best kind of wasted—chocolate wasted.
5. Untitled at the Whitney
It may be those big chunks of dark chocolate chips, or it may be the milk jar that comes alongside it, but this cookie sure does have me feeling all sorts of things.
6. Momofuku Milk Bar
Ever heard of this place? Apparently they do cool things with soft serve and pie, but the chocolate chip cookie with marshmallow and cornflakes is the real star of the show.
7. Birdbath Green Bakery
Birdbath Bakery is all about having their cookies in stacks. I repeat, Stacks. Of. Chocolate. Chip. Cookies. Intrigued? Thought so.
8. Culture Espresso
Who needs coffee when you can get a sugar rush from these chocolate chip cookies? Okay, grab a coffee too, but these babies cannot and will not be ignored—they are served warm.
9. Jacques Torres
Jacques Torres’ famous chocolate chip cookies are approximately the size of a small turtle, but who’s complaining? Giant, flat cookies for the win.
10. Almondine
Brooklyn not only has hipsters in abundance, but also great little French bakeries that sell amazing chocolate chip cookies. If that’s not reason enough to make it your favorite borough, I don’t know what is.
11. Baked
Okay, Brooklyn also has bakeries just as hipster as the people that live there. I’m talking homemade granola bars and mustache cookies—but also these unbelievably good chocolate chip goddesses.
12. Sweet Corner Bakeshop
Giant sea salt crystals, milk and dark chocolate chips all come together in this amazing cookie from Sweet Corner Bakeshop. Yeah, I’m salivating too.
13. Milk & Cookies Bakery
I mean, this bakery’s name is Milk & Cookies, it has to be on this list. But name aside, they do boast outstanding cookies and that’s what really matters.
14. Smile To Go
This place understands a very important thing about chocolate chip cookies—they can be eaten anywhere, and should be taken on the go at least every once and a while. Oh and that sea salt on top…
15. Bouchon Bakery
Of course Bouchon Bakery is featured every day on The Today Show, it also has unreal chocolate chip cookies that are bigger than the size of your entire hand.
16. Ovenly
All I have to say is, yes. Just yes. (Also pick up one of their peanut butter cookies, you won’t regret it.)
17. Blue Ribbon Bakery Market
This bad boy is only $1! And it’s the best dollar you will ever spend, I promise you.
