The Best Restaurants For Every Cuisine in Maryland

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Maryland chapter.

With the intimidating multitude of restaurants in Maryland, it can be hard to choose the right one. But lucky for you, we’ve short-listed the best restaurants for these ten cuisines:

Greek: Mykonos Grill

Talk about ambiance. Walk into this restaurant and you will completely forget you’re even in Maryland. Filled with plenty of blue and white paintings of Greece, the restaurant is made to look like the Greek island.

On top of the look, the food is da bomb. My personal favorites include the Spanakopita and Saganaki.

Italian: Il Pizzico

After just one visit, Il Pizzico jumped to #1 on my list for Italian food. This place is seriously a hidden gem. You would never guess from the outside, but with dim lights, expensive dishes, and great service, its definitely on the fancier side.

Everything here was mouth wateringly delicious from the Prosciutto e Mozzarella to the Arancine Rivistate (my favorite) to the Bucatini.

Fair warning: You may leave the restaurant with one or two buttons, unbuttoned.

Indian: Rasika

Okay so technically this is DC and not Maryland, but if you make the trip out there, I promise you will not regret it.

The restaurant’s most popular dish is the Palak Chaat but my favorite is definitely the dal.

#Spoon Tip: If you plan on going, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. This place is always packed, and for good reason.

Chinese: Peter Chang

Peter Chang’s is not your usual Americanized Chinese takeout, it is delicious Szechuan Chinese Cuisine. The food is filled with strong and spicy flavors, so what’s not to love?

My favorite is the dried fried eggplant, it wasn’t too greasy and it legit melted in my mouth. I was never a fan of eggplant, but Peter totally made me change my mind.

Thai/Vietnamese: Pho Thom

My family is big on Thai, and out of all the restaurants we have tried, Pho Thom has consistently served the best food. It’s a small place and though the service is mediocre, the food is simply delicious.

My favorite dishes are the drunken noodles and pad thai.

American: Founding Farmers

I know this is extremely basic of me, but the food here is amazing and you can’t deny it. The food is made in house from scratch daily, and the ingredients are sourced from family owned farmers. My favorites here are the mac and cheese, banana foster pancakes, yankee pot roast, and beignets, beignets, beignets. Did I say beignets?

Japanese: Raku

I’m not a huge sushi fan (so weird, I know) but I do love a good chicken teriyaki, and let me tell you their’s is simply delightful. For the sushi lovers, their most popular is the spicy tuna roll.

Great location, great service, and great food, what more could you ask for?

Mexican: Guapos

It’s a tough call between Guapos and Uncle Julios, but the queso was the tie breaker. After trying both within the same week, I can assure you Guapos queso is so much better.

On top of the queso, the desserts here are orgasmic. Try the fried ice cream and sopaipillas, you won’t regret it.

French: Mon Ami Gabi

I came here and got a burger so it wasn’t very French of me, but it was definitely worth the $14. The restaurant is clean and beautiful and the baguette with butter and jam adds to the French vibe.

Their most popular dish is Steak Frites. Bon Appetit!

Peruvian/Cuban: La Limena

If you need something quick and delicious, La Limena is your spot. The service is friendly and fast, and the food is crisp and delicious with very reasonable prices.

Everyone loves the alfajores, two cookies stuffed with caramel. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
