With summer concerts finally here, I’ve found myself spending all my money on concert tickets. I like to buy general admission tickets and get to the concert as early as possible to be all the way in the front so that Stephan Jenkins or Rivers Cuomo might actually notice me.
Waiting for hours at a time (after I’ve rightfully earned my front row spot) makes me a little hungry. I don’t want to give up my spot or pay $15 for a concert entree, so I’ve figured out a few ways to hack the system and sneak my own food and snacks from home into concerts.
1. Use your blanket
At an outdoor general admission concert, you’re most likely sitting in the lawn. If you’re bringing a blanket to sit on, wrap your snacks in the blanket and no one will ever know. This trick is perfect for larger snacks, like sandwiches or big bags of chips.
2. Bring a jacket
I know, I know. No one plans on wearing a jacket in July. However, if your jacket has pockets, you can fit the best small, on-the-go snacks in the pockets and eat them later.
3. Take advantage of your backpack
Like using your jacket and your backpack, if can bury your snacks in between some of your stuff, you’re set. This trick works best with small-sized snacks, like granola bars, fruit snacks or individual snack bags.
4. Use your clothes
If you’re feeling risky, and are fairly certain you won’t be frisked at security, tuck some snacks in the front of your shirt or the front of your pants. It’s an easy way to sneak snacks into your show.
5. Bring your own water bottle
The concerts you attend that allow you to bring your own water bottle are easily the best concerts ever. Not only do you get free water, but you can shove more snacks into your water bottle. It’s as easy as hiding food from your roommate.
