How This Brewery Is Using Beer Cans to Honor Fallen Soldiers

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Virginia Tech chapter.

Dog Tag Brewing has a larger mission than delivering good beer to its customers. The Montana-based craft brewery is devoted to building legacies for soldiers that sacrificed their lives for America, donating profits to benefit charities and organizations focused on honoring veterans.

Dog Tag Brewing specifically collaborates with Gold Star Families to support Legacy Building Projects for fallen warriors. Gold Star Families are the families of service members killed in combat. Dog Tag works very closely with these select families to choose the projects and develop the personalized dedication cans. The goal of these Legacy Building Projects is to ensure that these fallen warriors and their actions are not forgotten.

The brewing company produces two beers: a lager and an IPA. Each Dog Tag can is dedicated to a service member that died in the line of duty. The dedication cans display the names and information of the fallen hero and includes their personal story of how they lost their lives. There are currently twelve fallen warriors to whom Dog Tag has dedicated cans.

These servicemen are Sergeant Andrew J. Baddick, Specialist Thomas J. Barbieri II, Staff Sergeant Christopher M. Falkel, Staff Sergeant Joseph A. Gage, Major Leon F. Morand, Major Mark D. Taylor, MD, and Sergeant Matthew J. Sandri of the US Army, and Sergeant Brian St. Germain, Captain Ryan K. Iannelli, Lance Corporal Eric W. Herzberg, Major Michael D. Martino, and Sergeant Jeremy R. McQueary of the US Marine Corps.

Dog Tag Brewing has made honoring the heroes that have died in service of our nation its mission through supporting Gold Star initiatives, but it also gives the American public a way to give back to our servicemen.
