This Company is Combatting Food Waste in Latin America

Barnana is a company with a big mission to stop food waste on banana farms. In Latin America, it is estimated that 56% of food waste happens before the produce reaches a distribution point. The bananas you see in grocery stores in the USA always look perfect but the innately fragile-skinned fruit goes to waste in its country of origin when an imperfection is detected, even if the inside is perfectly fine to eat.

As the company says, “this leaves a massive amount of bananas left behind”. This is where the idea of upcycling comes into play.
