9 DC Coffee Shops for Amazing Instagrams

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at American chapter.

We all love Instagram. I, for one, spend at least a couple of hours a day scrolling through photo after photo of drool-worthy food, beautiful sunsets and fashion posts. I also love coffee, so one of my favorite things to do on Instagram is finding new coffee shops to try. Here are my picks for great DC coffee shops for great Instagrams.

1. Compass Coffee: Shaw/U Street

Compass Coffee has some of the best iced coffee out there. They use the Nitro Cold Brew method and it is the only iced coffee that I don’t have to put milk in. It was creamy and smooth all by itself. If you swear that you have to put tons of milk in coffee to drink it, I dare you to try this.

2. Open City at the National Cathedral: Cathedral Heights

I love going to Open City’s location at the National Cathedral. Partially because of the free wifi and in large part because of the amazing food and coffee. Their waffles are to die for and the tomato soup with basil oil and parmesan cheese? Amazing!

3. Dolcezza Gelato: Various Locations

With summer coming up, DC will get hotter and you will need to find some good iced coffee and a cold treat. Good news for you because Dolcezza is home to some great gelato (my favorite is their Chocolate Mexicano gelato) and coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters.

4. Slipstream DC: Logan Circle

Slipstream DC is known for their local ingredients and a seasonally changing menu. Their most Instagrammed food is their avocado toast with goat cheese mousse. Which you can enjoy with their house espresso or house filter coffee.

5. Tryst: Adams Morgan

Tryst is everyone’s favorite café in Adams Morgan. You can get coffee while working on one of their many couches, or eat a panini while sitting on their patio. Tryst is converting DC Library Trolls into coffee connoisseurs.

6. Baked & Wired: Georgetown

With so many cupcake spots in DC to visit, it’s a hard decision to choose just one. But, Baked and Wired is perfect for an Instagram pic due to the cute outdoor seating and glass jars displaying huge cupcakes and other goodies. The coffee alone is worth the trip, and it’s the perfect place to get a treat to go alongside your cup. Read our review of the bakery here.

7. Filter Coffeehouse & Espresso: Various Locations

Filter’s various locations allow you to have their delicious espresso wherever you go. Their location near Farragut Square is perfect for a mid-afternoon pick me up run from your internship.

8. Little Red Fox: Chevy Chase

Little Red Fox combines a coffee shop, a café and a market. Their menu changes regularly allowing for favorite dishes and new ones inspired by local ingredients. Spoon AU wrote a fantastic piece about them, which you can read here.

9. Chinatown Coffee Company: Chinatown

If you’re not feeling the coffee then you can get this beautiful looking matcha latte at Chinatown Coffee Company. This coffee shop also has many pastries, Dolcezza gelato and other coffee drinks.

Now since you have seen all of this amazing looking coffee, go into DC, eat a pastry, drink a cup of joe and Instagram it.
