What to Eat at Hen House Grill: A Restaurant Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UC Irvine chapter.

Welcome to Hen House Grill, a glorious Persian/Mediterranean restaurant that is conveniently located across the street from UC Irvine. Hen House has recently relocated from its spot by Wholesome Choice, and now resides in the Campus Plaza. But most importantly, it is walking distance for myself and my fellow UCI Anteaters.

So in the midst of winter quarter’s finals week, myself and my fellow Spoon comrades (Jaimie and Tasnim) had grown weary of constant studying and intense procrastinating. Together, we made a seemingly foolish decision to try this new restaurant as an excuse to not study. But we did not expect Hen House to be so freaking GOOD!

And so far we have no regrets.

Okay, I have been babbling about Hen House this whole time yet I have not fully expressed its deliciousness. The menu features a variety of platters to enjoy, this includes: curry, various kebabs, roasted chicken, and much more. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough friends to try everything on the menu but our selections were definitely delicious.

I ordered this beauty. It’s a juicy roasted half chicken paired with beautiful yellow rice with cranberries, and naan bread. I personally enjoyed the cranberries because they not only enhance the color of the plate, but they also add a sweet zest that complements the chicken very nicely. Overall, I was very happy with this plate.

My friend Tasnim got the chicken kebabs. She described her dish as “divine” so I’ll take her word for it. I mean, right after we finished eating she seemed so content with life (despite the fact that she took a final right after).

My friend and photographer, Jaimie, ordered the curry. Jaimie kindly allowed all of us to sample her curry and it was pretty awesome! I really liked dipping my naan bread in the curry sauce. It was so, so good!

In conclusion, Hen House Grill has left a lasting impression on me. I still think about the savory chicken that can easily make my mouth water. But the food is not only delectable, but Hen House also offers massive portions. My friends and I could only eat about half of our plates, but that’s okay because we had plenty of food to take home for dinner later that day.

Additionally, UCI Anteaters get a special 10% student discount. So what are you waiting for? Hen House Grill features delicious food, big portions, and affordable prices. You won’t regret it because I certainly didn’t.
