New York, New York, it’s a hell of a town. No two neighborhoods are alike. Foodies tend to gravitate towards the West Village or Hell’s Kitchen, but did you ever wonder about downtown? The Financial District holds more than gold at the Federal Reserve. There are many unique dining experiences near the Brooklyn Bridge and through the small narrow streets of FiDi.
Bonus: there are more than five subways that stop here, so there is no excuse not to visit.
1. Pisillo

If you’re on the go, make a stop at this hole-in-the-wall Italian sandwich shop. One sandwich is enough for two whole meals with the amount of mozzarella, prosciutto, and peppers that they stuff into these freshly baked Italian breads. Their ingredients are always fresh and imported straight from Italy.
2. Fresh Salt

Looking to brunch? If you’re feeling a cozy ambiance, friendly staff, and delicious food, Fresh Salt is hidden around the South Street Seaport, providing their customers with breakfast favorites. Opt for the french toast that comes with a delicious homemade apple compote.
3. El Luchador

Looking for authentic Mexican food? Head to El Luchador for a unique dining experience. They don’t have a typical restaurant setting; instead, they opted for a blue van with a long table inside. Order some delicious tacos with a side of kick-HASS guac and your taste buds will tingling.
4. Barbalu

Looking for a cozy date night? Barbalu is a rustic Italian dining experience. Everything on their menu is appealing to the eye, the service is fantastic, and the vibe inside is trendy and classy. Opt for a meat plate for two and a bottle of red wine. As far as entrees go, EVERYTHING is delicious.
5. Jack’s Coffee

Get your coffee fix right down Front Street. Jacks started their business 13 years ago as the first coffee shop serving organic, fair-trade coffee. The shop serves the community with caffeine fixtures as well as warm and toasty treats. I highly suggest The Happy Jack, which is a honey and cinnamon latte.
6. Zaitzeff

For a hearty burger and fries, Zaitzeff is a FiDi favorite. Since they serve up organic meat, eggs, and fresh produce, you’ll leave with a great dining experience whether it’s a breakfast egg sandwich or a burger. Whatever you order, be sure to try the mixed fries. They consist of freshly cut regular and sweet potatoes that are fried right in front of you.
7. Cowgirl Seahorse

Did someone say margaritas? Cowgirl Seahorse is the home of the downtown frozen margaritas. The restaurant will have you feeling under the sea with the nautical decor and spicy Mexican flavors. Stick around in the evenings, as they tend to host free live music.
8. Suteishi

Nothing’s fishy about Suteishi. Located on the corner of Front Street, this sushi restaurant offers an extensive list of hand rolls, fresh seafood, and even “maki-bites” (one piece of a roll). This allows customers to mix and match roll pieces to their preference.
9. Adrienne’s Pizza Bar

Stone Street holds a wondrous abyss of restaurants. Along a cobblestone street filled with people in warmer weather eating outside, Adrienne’s will fill your stomach with some delicious pizza. Their pizza ranges across a variety of toppings, but no matter what you order, make sure to save room for the Nutella chocolate cake.
10. Trading Post

Classically established on the corner of a cobblestone street, this American bar and restaurant serves up drinks, classic favorites, and comfort foods overlooking the East River. With two bars on both levels, Trading Post ensures there is something to consume for every individual.
