Cupcakeries have become very popular all over the United States in the last couple years. There are so many different cupcake shops out there, so we decided to break down the 5 best cupcakeries in San Diego. Each of these cupcakeries put their own unique spin on their cupcakes making them the most memorable shops in San Diego.

Sprinkles:

Sprinkles Cupcakes, originally established in L.A. as the very first cupcakery. Sprinkles came to La Jolla, San Diego in 2011. There is a huge hype about Sprinkles red velvet cupcake and Sprinkles recently released their new April flavor, black velvet cupcake. Sprinkles offers a wide variety of cupcakes ranging from a vanilla milk chocolate cupcake to a chai latte cupcake. Online Sprinkles allows customers to view which cupcakes are available depending on what day of the week it is.

In addition to cupcakes, Sprinkles has created a full menu of their own ice-creams along with several cupcake ATMs where you can get cupcakes at any hour.

Sprinkles offers many ice-cream flavors as well as a cupcake ice-cream sandwich, where you can mix and match as many cupcake and ice-cream flavors as you want.

Frost Me Gourmet Cupcakes:

Frost Me Gourmet is the newest San Diego Cupcake Wars winner. They were founded in 2011 and opened two store fronts in Westfield UTC and at Sea Port Village.

They are known for their buttery delicious frosting, but they offer many cupcake flavors such as vanilla bean, red velvet, peanut butter, vanilla maple, salted caramel apple, and even dark chocolate chili pepper.

Pure Cupcakes:

Pure Cupcakes, created in 2009, was the winner of Food Networks Cupcake Wars in 2013. They also won best cupcakes in San Diego in 2013 and 2014. They are centrally located in Pacific Beach. Although they are known for their salted caramel cupcakes, they also offer Sweet Potato & Chocolate Chip cupcakes (pictured above) and a cheesecake smeared with a huckleberry compote and topped with huckleberry buttercream.

BabyCakes:

BabyCakes located in Hillcrest is known for their jumbo cupcakes. They offer a variety of cupcakes as well as cheesecakes, brownies, and cinnamon rolls. Some of their cupcakes have a delicious filling to make them even more decadent. Pictured are the white chocolate oreo cupcake, the cheesecake tuxedo cupcake, and the chocolate fudge cupcake, just three of the seemingly endless options. The Hillcrest location offers a sit down area for your cupcake experience along with a bar in the evenings for those who seek to participate in the Hillcrest night life.
