The Best Crêperie in Tacoma

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Puget Sound chapter.

I’m going to be honest: I hate France. I’ve visited multiple times and honestly Paris is a disgusting city with people who pretend to be deaf or mute and others try to tie strings around your fingers just to make you pay them for a “bracelet.”

Sure, there are some upsides to the country, but it’s just not my kind of place. That being said, French food can be delicious. Scrumptious. Absolutely magnificent. So, if you’re ever really hankering from some classic crêpes in Tacoma, WA, I have found the place for you.

Introducing: Savor Tacoma Crêperie.

Located in downtown Tacoma, this little gem serves delightful delicacies. The menu has both savory and sweet options, my personal favorite being the classic Nutella crêpe. I suggest trying one savory and one sweet. You have to treat yourself.

After a short chat with the owner, Tom, I discovered a fun fact about crêpes. He told me that in France when you order a sweet crêpe, they are normally made with buckwheat. Wondering what that is? I wondered too. Turns out, it’s a super healthy grain, and weirdly enough is sometimes used in certain Asian noodles (typically soba noodles). It was actually a grain of the month once.

Anyway, Tom admitted that he couldn’t use buckwheat here in Tacoma because it would be far too expensive, but if you ever find yourself in the hellish land that is France, maybe give him a fact check.

More importantly, take a look at Savor’s crêpes.

This was my Nutella crêpe. The perfect amount of Nutella was nestled in between the layers of light sweet crêpe, it was everything I wanted it to be. I have always been partial to sweet crêpes, and whenever I find myself wanting one, it’s always Nutella flavored. But Tom told me he is partial to savory crêpes, his favorite being one with leek, apple, chicken fennel sausage and goats cheese. It sounds pretty damn good, but maybe that’s because I like everything that’s in it.

I also took a little sneaky peek at the woman making crêpes right in front of my eyes.

It seems like a bold move to let your customers stare at your workers in awe as the smell of Nutella and fruit fills the air, but it is oh so successful. I was drooling.

If the crêpes aren’t enough to bring you here, they also recently started serving alcohol. Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 pm is happy hour with $5 wine. Calling all college students who love food and drinking. This is the place to be. Speaking of alcohol, check out this article to see what your choice of alcohol says about you.

So yes, I hate France, but I love good food. Easy to order to go, or easy to eat in, Savor Tacoma Crêperie is for sure the best place in Tacoma to get a crêpe.
