Why Cal Poly Students Are Obsessed With Noi’s Thai Takeout

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Cal Poly chapter.

Los Osos has gained its street cred from slocal foodies and Cal Poly students. From burgers, to seafood and Mexican food, Los Osos is worth the 15 min. drive to get food that’s authentic AF. So it’s no surprise that Noi’s Little Thai Takeout is what got me thinking about traveling to Thailand in the first place because let’s be honest, traveling is all about the food am I right?

Real talk, everyone I’ve brought to Noi’s has become slightly addicted to it. Some even say it’s ruined all Thai food for them because they can’t find anything else better.

The zen arrangement of bamboo plants, koi pond, homemade tree swing and old school soft rock of Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles playing in the background make it the perfect spot to either relax with out-of-town parents, do homework, meet up with friends, or bring a date and take your food to the beach.

The building itself is the size of a tiny house. Walking in, you’ll be met with an aroma of spices being cooked by extremely friendly, small Thai women standing on step stools cooking in front of you. There are pictures of celebrities, famous food critics and newspaper cutouts awarding Noi’s its earned foodie street cred framed on the walls.

What I like the most is that their food is fresh and only takes 20 minutes to cook. My two favorite dishes on the menu are: Friday’s yellow curry chicken, which comes with rice, red potatoes, sweet peppers, and a splash a coconut milk for $11.50; and the chicken pad thai for $9.75. Everyday of the week is a new curry. Their Yelp page also has a full description of the menu, each day’s curry special, and comments from the public raving about the food.

There are a ton of lighter options, too. From veggie stir-fry to tofu stir, you can enjoy the Thai taste with the same flavors minus the guilt.

In comparison to other Thai food places in SLO, you won’t have to budge your budget. For its price, Noi’s food portions are bigger than you would expect. I can put away a lot, and even I struggle to finish devouring my food.

Important Facts to Know Before Going to Noi’s Thai Takeout:

  • Noi’s is only open on the weekdays from 11 am – 7:30 pm, so make sure not to put it off.
  • They only take cash, so no credit/debit cards (however there’s a liquor store across the street with an ATM that most people use right before).
