We won’t dare admit it, but at some point in our twenty-something lives, we’ve all aspired to be a little like the cast of Friends.
No, we don’t have a Central Perk (I wish), but here’s a definite ranking of where each Friends character would get drinks in St Andrews. Take notes.
Phoebe: The Keys Bar, Market Street

Let’s face it. If anyone’s going to fit in with the locals, it’s Phoebe. You would probably find her sitting in the outside area singing renditions of “Smelly Cat” on your way to the library or Buchanan (sing along with her, your lecturer won’t mind) or telling stories of when she lived on the streets. She’d be a constant crowd pleaser among the locals, and although the Keys are notoriously non-student friendly, Phoebe would definitely be able to get in on the scene. If you like cats, you should check out this cat cafe.
Chandler: The Central, Market Street

Chandler is totally your typical nine to five Joe, and fits right in with the “post work” crowd most often found in The Central. With his ambiguous job in “finance,” he has the means to afford some slightly over-priced drinks and totally gives off the “I just got off work and need a drink” vibe on a regular basis. He would go to the Central with his boy crew who he can tell jokes to and still make it home in time for a civil dinner with Monica.
Monica: Rusacks Hotel Bar, The Links

Monica’s a classy gal, and won’t stand for any establishment that doesn’t uphold her cleanliness standards. For that reason, if Monica is getting drinks and not going out to eat, being the foodie she is, you would find her at the Russacks Hotel, ordering a glamorous gin & tonic. Want to be like Monica? Joey: The Whey Pat Tavern, Bridge Street

Joey and The Whey Pat seem destined for each other. Between the nachos, dart boards, and cheap drinks, he wouldn’t be able to stay away. His bottomless stomach is constantly in need of some bar snacks, hence the nachos, and his childish manner can’t simply just go for a drink (because he literally still needs some play time). Hence the darts. His struggling actor persona also fits well with the ambiance of the slightly struggling Whey Pat. If you’re craving some nachos, but can’t quite make it out to the Whey Pat, try this recipe for size.
Rachel: The West Port, South Street

You would definitely find Rachel splitting a French cocktail pitcher at the Westport with her gals on ladies night (no boys allowed!). She’s the perfect combo of classy meets the girl next door, ideal for cocktail nights at the always classy venue of Westport.
Ross: Aikman’s, Bell Street

In true Ross fashion, you would find him sharing a pint with his fellow professors and PhD students at Aikman’s. He’d love the intellectuals there and especially love chatting with the gregarious bartender downstairs, and you’d absolutely find him there at an open mic or band night, enjoying the vibe.
