Berkeley’s 5 Best Boba Shops

There are at least 10 different places to get boba in Berkeley, with new ones opening every semester. As boba addicts, we love it. But sometimes, we’re not sure which shop to go to. Here’s a guide to help you navigate the many boba spots around UC Berkeley.

Best Deal: Tea Press

Spent too much money on boba already? Us too. Thankfully, at Tea Press, for just $3.50, you can get two of the following drinks with boba: Jasmine Milk Tea, Milk Tea, Thai Tea, or Thai Coffee. It doesn’t get any cheaper than that.

Best Late Night Boba: Sweetheart Café

When you’re craving boba late at night, Sweethearts is the place to go. They’re open until midnight Sunday through Thursday, 2 am on Friday, and 1 am on Saturday. Plus, if you’re craving something salty, they also sell popcorn chicken and other yummy snacks.

#SpoonTip: Sweethearts has a stamp card! Just ask the cashier for one the next time you’re there.

Best Excuse Boba: Sharetea

Sometimes we don’t want to admit it, but we’re definitely addicted to boba. Sharetea’s the best place to go if you want to justify buying boba. There’s usually a fundraiser going on; just do a quick search on Facebook, and, in a matter of minutes, you’ll be helping a great cause while enjoying your drink.

Best Tea Selection: Asha Tea House

If you’re more interested in tea than boba, head over to Asha Tea House. They have a variety of seasonal fruit and artisan loose-leaf teas that you won’t find at other boba shops.

#SpoonTip: Try their matcha drinks! Asha is one of the few places that prepares it the traditional Japanese way.

Best Overall: U-Cha

New to Berkeley, U-Cha has already won over our boba-loving stomachs. It’s the most authentic boba shop in town, according to Taiwanese foodies. U-Cha has great service, a plethora of delicious, unique tea, and topping combinations, shaved ice, and nearly-weekly fundraisers. It really doesn’t get any better than this.

Now that you know where to get your boba fix, go forth and satisfy your boba cravings (or addiction).
