With the FIFA World Cup approaching, everyone is looking for ways to get into the competitive spirit the games promise. In the weeks leading up to the tournament, the fans’ anticipation for the tournament has grown, with ads from classic brands like Adidas or Coca-Cola featuring different athletes and celebrities hyping up all of us watching at home. McDonald’s is no exception with the release of its FIFA World Cup meal.
What’s in a McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Meal?
The new meal was released in two different formats — breakfast and dinner. The regular dinner includes a Big Mac, medium fries, and the drink of your choice. Or you can get the 10-Piece chicken McNuggets that come with their very own special-edition gold sauce packet limited to the meal. The breakfast options have either a Sausage McMuffin or a Sausage Egg Biscuit, with hashbrowns and a drink.
As far as McDonald’s meals go, it sounds pretty regular, but the most exciting item in the meal is the new collectible player cups. With athletes like Ronaldinho Gaucho, David Beckham, and Son Heung-Min, these nine cups depict legendary players from the different competing countries. Each meal comes with one surprise cup.
In addition to the new meal, McDonald’s is also releasing a new line of Happy Meal toys. Designed with Squishmallow, these 23 little football players are another adorable way to get into the cup spirit this coming week.
The Squishmallows include the three mascots for the cup, representing each host country, with a small jaguar for Mexico, a moose for Canada, and a small bald eagle for the USA. The mascots are joined by the other countries’ jerseys in these small, cuddly plushies.
How soon can I get them?
Luckily, the answer, at least for the FIFA meal, is right now. The meal was announced at the beginning of the month and was released today in the U.S. and some global markets. The meals will run you around $12 to $15 bucks.
The new Happy Meal Squishmallows are also coming soon. The release date for the new toy line is June 9, only two days before the beginning of the tournament, and the perfect meal to get to celebrate the World Cup starting.
The meal announcement was made alongside a promotional video featuring the highlighted players: Ronaldinho, Lamin Yamal, David Beckham, Son Heung-Min, Thierry Henry, Alphonso Davies, Christian Pulisic, Santiago Gimenez, and McDonald’s own star, Grimace, creating excitement for the drop.
The cups quickly became an anticipated collectors’ item, with some sources claiming that a full set could be found online for around $50 dollars.
