McDonald’s Might Be Your New Go-To Dirty Soda Spot

Every fast-food chain holds a special place in your heart to satisfy one craving that it has based its entire brand on. Starbucks satiates the need for a morning jolt. Swig is a Utah staple for a dirty soda. And McDonald’s has always reigned supreme for a burger and fries. It’s rare for places to extend beyond their carefully curated place in the market. Yet, welcome to 2026, the year of revival and reinvention across the internet. In May, McDonald’s will add new drinks as a part of their McCafe menu. The inspiration seemingly pulls from other popular chains, adding cold brews, refreshers, and dirty sodas to their sipping experience. Prior to this, the McDonald’s drink menu presented the standard Coca Cola products, classic frozen drinks and smoothies, and traditional juices and teas. However, this new set of soft drinks isn’t solely a new addition, it’s insinuating the relevance of social media in marketing and consumption, rebranding their competitors as their inspiration for the new menu.

But what does launching this new menu imply?

McDonald’s wants the younger generations, reviving the brand’s popularity for the age of TikTok. In a former menu change, Alyssa Buetikofer, the Chief Customer Experience and Marketing Officer in McDonald’s in the USA, pointed to the clear connection between appealing to a younger audience through revamping what they offer saying, “We’re seeing real momentum in beverages, with more people – especially our Gen Z fans – turning to cold, flavorful drinks as a go-to treat.”

The McCafe beverage menu is launching six new drinks. Among them are soda combinations mixed with flavorful syrups, offering a “Sprite Berry Blast” and “Dirty Dr. Pepper.” This is similar to Swig, a chain well known in Utah for their dirty sodas, which has blown up on social media with the popularity of shows like Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. It specifically draws attention to their specialized drinks as a means to replace more commonly used substances, like alcohol and coffee.

There are also three new refreshers in their line-up. In the same vein as Starbucks’ fruity refreshers, McDonald’s is opting for tropical and citrus flavors, using lemonade as a base. The new names on the menu are Strawberry Watermelon, Mango Pineapple, and Blackberry Passion Fruit, all invigorating a sweet flavor palette as customers get ready for the summer heat.

McDonald’s new 2026 menu prioritizes trends and interests in pop culture by adding six new drinks, all curated to satisfy the need for a sweet treat. In alignment with growing popularity of other chains, McDonald’s long-awaited line of beverages offers all of the newest Gen-Z favorites, serving refreshers, cold brews, and sweet dirty sodas.
