The Viral Glitter Dumplings, Explained

It seems like every few months, there is a new blind box craze. From Smiskis to Sonny Angels to Labubus, it seems like people just can’t get enough of the thrill that comes with opening up a package and not knowing what exactly is inside. The newest blind box obsession that’s rapidly flying off the shelves is related to food, but unfortunately not the edible kind. The dumpling squishy has quickly risen to fame on the internet, and people are doing everything they can to get their hands on them — and hopefully open their box to reveal the rarest one.

What is a dumpling squishy?

You’ve probably heard of a squishy: it’s a soft, squishable object that people typically use as a fidget toy or a stress reliever. The dumpling squishy is exactly that, but sold in the form of a blind box, so customers have no idea what color or type they are going to get. Each dumpling comes in its own steamer, which it can be removed from to fully squish and play with. Each one also comes with an adorable, smiling face

What is the glitter dumpling squishy?

Like other blind boxes, the main appeal of the dumpling squishies are the different types you can reveal once you open your steamer. The regular, solid-colored dumplings are the most common types that you can get. If you get a rainbow or a holographic dumpling, that’s considered rare. The most rare dumpling you can get, though? The glitter dumpling — it’s considered to be ultra rare.

People can’t help but freak out when they finally open their package to reveal the ultra rare glitter-filled dumpling, like TikToker Keagan Rayne and her friend. The two opened their mystery steamers to a pink glitter dumpling, causing screams of joy from the both of them. It’s seriously like winning the lottery — except it’s just a glittery, squishable toy.

Where can you get the dumpling squishies?

Unfortunately, because of their popularity and people’s urges to keep buying them until they finally get a glitter dumpling, the dumpling squishes are basically impossible to find. The mini Series 1 that costs $1 and the Series 3 for $5 are both sold out online at Five Below, and many people have posted videos of empty shelves where they should be in-store. Luckily, there’s plenty of dupes on Amazon, and you can make sure that you’re getting a glitter version and even pick the color. If you’re craving the thrill of opening a dumpling squishy blindly and hoping for a glitter-filled one, keep checking out your local Five Below for a restock — with the dumplings continuing growing popularity, they’re sure to return to shelves eventually.
