Have You Ever Dreamed Of A 24-Layer Pickle Cake?

If you’re a pickle enthusiast or you’ve just been loving the pickle treats that have gone viral this past year, there’s a new pickle collab happening that ties the savory snack with a sweet treat. Maison Pickle in New York City recently put a 24-layer pickle cake on the menu served by the slice. It’s savory, it’s sweet, and it might be every pickle lover’s sweet treat dream. The restaurant first went viral for their 24-layer chocolate cakes and wide array of savory dishes. If you’re visiting the Upper West Side anytime soon, you’ll have to stop by Maison Pickle to try out the “dill-icious” pickle cake.

What is the pickle cake?

The green cake has pickles baked into the base and is frosted with buttercream and topped with a layer of pickles. It’s 24 layers (12 of cake and 12 of frosting) and served as one slice that could be shared with the table. It’s not only topped with pickles, but the cake itself is pickle flavored and the buttercream frosting is dyed green to match.

TikTok user Sam E. Goldberg (@respectthechain) said the pickle cake tastes like a piece of sweet cornbread layered with a pickle on top. He said the pickle taste adds a certain sweetness to the cake because of the sugars that pickles already have in them and instead of sour pickles, the cake is baked with sweet ones, complementing rather than detracting from the sweet taste of the cake.

This might be the craziest dessert in New York City. 🥒🍰 A 24-layer pickle cake covered in frosting and topped with pickles… and yes, there are pickles inside the cake too. Sweet cake. Salty pickles. A combo nobody expects. Somehow this exists at Maison Pickle on the Upper West Side. New York City always has wild desserts… but this one might actually be the craziest. So the real question is… Would you try pickle cake? Respect the Chain with Sam E. How do I get the 24 layer pickle cake?

The cake is being sold in person or for order pickup online for $18 per slice. But each slice is massive, looking like it can feed at least three to four people. If you’re obsessed with the idea of a pickle cake slice and are looking to get an entire cake, you can purchase one online for $165 with a 48 hour notice. Unfortunately, they don’t have the option to have the pickle cake shipped just yet.

What other options are there?

If the idea of pickles and cake isn’t an appealing combo to you, Maison Pickle does have other options for their 24 layer cakes. You can purchase a chocolate-chocolate cake or a funfetti vanilla cake, both 24 layers and made with buttercream frosting. You can even top the cake with some milk like TikTok user @frenchtries did in their video.

And if you’re looking for something a little more substantial, the restaurant is known for their garlic buttery rolls, mac and cheese, and elaborate chicken and waffles. Each dish is served on an elaborate plate, and is definitely a phone-eats-first kind of moment.
