Southern California has a huge array of their own uniquely distinct coffee culture grounded in the expansive region located within the southern section of the state. From independent craft cafés to global chains on nearly every corner, SoCal is not easily impressed when it comes to drinks. Dutch Bros Coffee has become one of the most talked-about coffee franchises among SoCal residents on social media, despite having a sparse amount of locations scattered in this region.
Scroll through social media and you’ll see it everywhere: colorful layered drinks, seasonal menu drops, and enthusiastic fans posting aesthetic cup shots like they’re collectibles. With limited storefronts in Southern California, Dutch Bros has quickly developed a destination coffee reputation. The scarcity alone builds curiosity and naturally raises the question: What exactly is all the hype about?
As a SoCal resident and coffee enthusiast, I finally tried several of Dutch Bros’ most popular drinks for the first time. Here’s an honest, flavor-focused review of what stood out to make this brand different. The drinks are listed according to my preference, saving my favorite from the variety of drinks towards the end of the list.
Shark Attack Rebel
“Main Ingredients”: Blue Raspberry, Coconut, Lime, and Pomegranate float (270 Calories)
Below is a side-by-side of online vs what we actually got with our order.

Dutch Bros’ Rebel line is their take on an energy drink — and the Shark Attack is one of the most visually and flavorfully bold options on their menu.
From the first sip, the carbonation immediately delivers the first layer of complexity of this drink. It gives a fizzy, soda-like sensation that enhances the fruit syrups. Blue raspberry and coconut dominate the flavoring, creating a tropical sweetness, while the lime sharpens the drink with a citrus tanginess.
The pomegranate syrup added to the bottom of the drink, which is the pomegranate float, introduces an extra layer of tartness, pushing the flavor balance to slightly more sour than sweet. As the layers mix, the taste evolves into something reminiscent of a sparkling fruit Icee — refreshing, powerfully sweet, and energizing.
The Shark Attack has less of a subtle delivery in flavors and provides a surge of bold fruity sweetness from the first sip. Between the carbonation, and mixed fruit flavors. The taste is surprisingly complex and will shock your taste buds with more flavors compared to the bright colors of the drink it is supposed to have.
Iced 911
“Main Ingredients”: 6 shots of espresso with Irish Cream Breve (280 calories)
The Iced 911 immediately stands out for its intensity. With six shots of espresso, the name alone suggests an emergency-level caffeine boost. Surprisingly, the drink is far smoother than expected.
The espresso itself leans slightly over-extracted, producing a mild dry bitterness on the finish. Under normal circumstances, that level of espresso concentration would create a very sharp flavor. However, the Irish Cream Breve dramatically changes the taste. Made with half-and-half and Irish cream syrup, the breve adds a thick, velvety richness that softens the bitterness of the espresso and introduces a subtle sweetness with creamy vanilla notes.
Rather than tasting like a strong coffee, the drink is smooth, sweet, and will kickstart your day. The richness of the dairy balances the espresso into something indulgent rather than overpowering.
While the coffee itself doesn’t have the same depth or roast complexity you might expect from other coffee shops, the Iced 911 delivers exactly what many people want from Dutch Bros: bold energy wrapped in a sweet and well beloved drink. It’s powerful, refreshing over ice, and surprisingly smooth for a six-shot drink.
Pink Velvet Mocha Cold Brew
“Main Ingredients:” Red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting flavors with Pink Velvet Soft Top (180 Calories)
This drink leans fully into Dutch Bros’ dessert-inspired identity. The Pink Velvet Mocha Cold Brew is less about coffee and more about indulgence.
The pink velvet flavor is soft and lighter than traditional red velvet cake or other drinks modeled after red velvet, offering a delicate sweetness and depth. Combined with cold brew and topped with the airy Pink Velvet Soft Top, the drink tastes remarkably similar to the cake. Cream cheese frosting notes dominate, while the coffee remains subtle in the background.
The texture is thick, creamy, and decadent — almost like sipping a blended bakery treat. Because of the heavy use of syrup and dairy, the drink is undeniably rich.
For anyone who prefers sweet, playful drinks over traditional coffee, this is exactly the kind of flavor experience for you.
Double RainBro Lemonade
“Main Ingredients:” Coconut, peach, and strawberry (240 Calories)
This refresher is Dutch Bros’ elevated take on flavored lemonade. Compared to typical café lemonades, the Double RainBro is noticeably sweeter, but it remains balanced rather than overwhelming.
Peach and lemonade are the most prominent flavors, creating something similar to a pink lemonade with extra depth. The coconut balances everything out and keeps the drink from tasting too strong or artificial, while the strawberry lightly sweetens it.
This fruit lemonade emphasizes subtle sweetness with a hint of acidity, in contrast to many other lemonades that highlight the sourness of lemons. The final product is refreshing and easy to drink, especially for people who like fruity drinks with low to mild acidity. The coconut, peach, and strawberry are all distinguishable in this drink, yet complement each other smoothly to deliver a simple and deliciously sweet lemonade fusion.”
Vanilla Protein Latte
Dutch Bros’ protein latte is for those who want a functional health consciousness coffee without sacrificing flavor. This product aligns with the new trends of 2026 with many stores catching onto the new protein health craze. Starbucks, Peets and now Dutch bros have all put Protein coffee drink options in addition to their menu. At first glance, it tastes very similar to a traditional vanilla latte — creamy, slightly sweet, and smooth.
Once again, the espresso carries a slightly over-extracted bitterness, but the protein milk effectively masks the lack of quality in the espresso shot. The texture becomes thicker and more substantial than standard milk, formulating a dense, creamy experience.
Protein beverages often have a chalky aftertaste, but here it’s barely noticeable. The drink has a mild, milky richness in dairy but doesn’t quite feel as heavy compared to most protein products nowadays.
For anyone looking for a more health-conscious coffee option that still feels indulgent, this is one of Dutch Bros’ most practical offerings
So.. Is it worth all the hype?
After trying these drinks, the appeal becomes clear — especially in a region where the brand still feels slightly uncommon and exciting. In short, Dutch Bros is less about coffee craftsmanship and more about experience. It blends caffeine, indulgence, and visual appeal into something fun and bold by enhancing creative new flavors or adding a heightened sweeter and fun original remix to many drinks we all know and love. For Southern Californians used to refined espresso bars, Dutch Bros is more of a treat destination than a daily cafe stop. The hype of Dutch Bros is definitely real. For those who enjoy a sweet and refreshing drink, I would highly recommend Dutch Bros.
