Dunkin’ Is Giving Away 50,000 Free Matcha Drinks

Across social media, young men are ditching their Nike Tech tracksuits in favor of quarter-zip sweaters, and one popular drink is always at their side. Matcha, the green tea leaf drink that is ever growing in popularity, accompanies each of these transformations.

Following the rise of the quarter zip takeover, Dunkin’ is giving away 50,000 free matcha drinks to Dunkin’ Rewards users in its app. Whether you want to give the quarter zip lifestyle a try or are just a fan of the green tea beverage, you can enjoy a free matcha drink courtesy of Dunkin’.

What is the quarter zip and matcha trend?

Young men’s transformation on social media from Nike Techs to quarter zips is all about welcoming a new lifestyle. Nike Techs are fleece windbreaker jackets often associated with a more casual, chill look. In contrast, quarter zips — knit sweaters aptly named for the fact that the zipper only goes a quarter of the sweater’s length — are being used to represent a more sophisticated and grownup lifestyle.

In any video of the quarter zip transformations, a matcha drink is always in sight. “We don’t do Nike Tech. We don’t do coffee. It’s straight quarter zips and matchas around here,” TikToker Jason Gyamfi, who popularized the trend, said in a now-viral video

Putting on that quarter zip and having a matcha in hand has completely transformed the lifestyle of these young men. TikToker @seanschutt69 posted a video satirizing the conversations of quarter zip and matcha lovers, filled with an emphasis on networking, LinkedIn and country clubs.

How can you get a free matcha drink at Dunkin’?

No quarter zip is needed to claim one of 50,000 free matcha drinks that Dunkin’ is giving away. Dunkin’ Rewards members can go to the Dunkin’ app and enter the promo code “zipandsip” to enjoy a free matcha drink.

While the national chain may be known best for their donuts, they offer matcha lattes and iced matcha lattes to pair perfectly with quarter zips. If you have not made the move to the quarter zip and matcha lifestyle yet, you can of course still enjoy one of Dunkin’s coffee drinks.

Dunkin’ has partnered with several social media creators who helped popularize the quarter zip and matcha trend to spread the word of free matcha drinks. TikTok user @speedymorman, who has garnered hundreds of thousands of views in his pursuit to find the best matcha, will be visiting Dunkin’ himself — in a quarter zip, of course — to see how Dunkin’s matcha pairs up against the rest of the beverages he has tried, and to promote the availability of free matcha drinks at Dunkin’.
