These Red Velvet Space Cakes Are Taking Over Amsterdam TikTok

If you’ve traveled to Amsterdam, you know the city is famous for coffeeshops that sell edibles, joints and everything cannabis related. Staff members in these shops help visitors select edibles and marijuana products to meet their desired effects. Now, the coffeeshops are going viral for new red velvet space cakes that look almost too pretty for their potent effects.

What are the red velvet space cakes?

The space cakes in Amsterdam are pastry cakes infused with cannabis to create an edible. These red velvet cakes are topped with cream cheese filling and are cut into a perfect square. The cakes are sold in a gold lined pastry box.

Borejongens, one of the primary sellers of the cakes, doesn’t give dosage information or prices online, but the website does warn to allow about an hour for the edible to set in before eating more.

Creator Christine Diaz (@christinediaz__) offered the same advice, after she split the cake with two friends and then went back for another before allowing time for effects to set in. Two cakes later, the group didn’t finish their TikTok and the high lasted over six hours.

What are the red velvet space cakes effects?

The cakes are said to provide a high that can last hours. As far as the potency, many reviews suggest that it varies based on personal tolerances.

Unfortunately, the Amsterdam coffeeshops don’t advertise the potency of each product and it could vary greatly across different places and products. So, depending on where you go and what you buy, it could be a slightly different experience for everyone.

For TikTok creator Jalen Noble (@alwaysjalen), the red velvet space cake led him to a variety of activities from buying iconic Amsterdam tulips to eating chocolate stroop waffles and even testing out a vacuum cleaner in a store.

Rochelle (@rochellefitness) said in a comment on her video that the cake left them high for over 48 hours after not kicking in for six hours.

Where can you find the red velvet space cakes?

According to Amsterdam Genetic Edibles’s TikTok (@amsterdamgeneticsedibles), the company that creates the space cakes, said you can find the cakes at any Amsterdam Genetics and Boerejongens shops.

Throughout Amsterdam, there are three different Boerejongens coffee shop locations and a variety of stores that sell the Amsterdam Genetics products.

What else is sold in Amsterdam?

If red velvet isn’t your vibe or you prefer something a little chocolatier, other coffeeshops in the city have chocolate space cakes and brownies. And if cake isn’t what you’re looking for at all, one coffee shop even sells lemon bars.

According to one shop in Amsterdam, Think Green, the majority of edibles in Amsterdam are baked goods because according to Dutch law, edibles can only be made with raw cannabis. This means that the super common gummies sold in the U.S. can’t be found in the Netherlands and neither can liquid or drink products.

So, if you’re planning a visit, you’re better off leaving the gummies at home and trying the red velvet space cake.
