If you aren’t looking for Ace Biscuit and Barbecue, there is a good chance that you will miss it. And that would be a tragedy.
Nestled in a residential area off of Preston Avenue, this spot is one of Charlottesville’s best kept secrets with authentic southern food at any time of the day.
Barbecue first thing in the morning may sound odd, but Ace’s will make you crave barbecue for breakfast. Immediately upon entering this quaint establishment, the sensational smell of smoked barbecue mixed with the sweet smell of maple will make any apprehension disappear.
Listed on a rustic chalkboard is a host of real southern breakfast dishes that are hardly found anywhere else. You will find the classic chicken and waffles dish battered, sweetened and fried to the perfect amount of crispy and barbecue sandwiches dressed with an egg that is strangely satisfying.
The build-your-own breakfast biscuit is a personal favorite. For only $6, your choice of meat, egg and cheese is stuffed between two mouth-wateringly fluffy biscuits.
My most recent order was the home ground Mexican chorizo with a medium egg and smoked pimento cheese. The smoky flavor of the pimento paired perfectly with the kick of the Mexican sausage and the sweetness of the biscuit. Together, this unique combination of flavors was a breakfast experience that left me craving more.
After a biscuit like this one, a bowl of oatmeal or a plate of eggs will never be quite as satisfying as Ace Biscuit and Barbecue.
Ace’s menu has a wide array of options for your own made-to-order meal, and they also serve lunch for those who like their barbecue strictly in the afternoon.
