Why You Should Go To Sal’s Caffe Italia When You’re Missing Homemade Food

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UVA chapter.

I’ve passed Sal’s Caffe Italia on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall a dozen times, but I have never actually ventured in until last week. While it was their incredible menu that initially caught my eye, their reputation around Charlottesville is also superb. Speaking on behalf of everyone, Sal’s Caffe Italia kills the Italian food game.

Shrimp Pesto Pizza

This pizza is a staple on the menu; it sounds amazing, looks incredible and (trust me) tastes just as good. This pizza is essentially a classic cheese pizza, but with the added bonus of a ring of savory pesto and shrimp on top.

In this cheesy dish, the not-too-sweet, not-too-chunky marinara sauce perfectly compliments the fried mozzarella (which is even topped with grated parmesan cheese).

This dish was by far my favorite of the night. The Mussels Giovanina did not disappoint with its delicate creamy sauce and tender mussels.
