It feels like the holiday season just ended, but Valentine’s Day is already in the air. Between the Trader Joe’s shelves being stocked with plenty of red and pink products and not just one, but two different drops of adorable Stanley Quenchers, there’s plenty of V-day cheer already. Beyond the classic seasonal products, though, chains are also giving Cupid a run for his money — the return of Chick-Fil-A’s Heart-Shaped Trays are imminent, and pizza chains tend to offer heart-shaped pies on February 14. Given the popularity of Valentine’s Day, especially for themed products and releases, it makes sense that DQ fans are wondering about the chain’s iconic V-day themed frozen treats and when the Dairy Queen Red Velvet Cake Blizzard Treat is coming back in 2025 — if at all.
Luckily, Instagram user and notorious fast food news source @Markie_Devo reported that the fan-favorite Dairy Queen Red Velvet Cake Blizzard will be coming back in 2025, and soon. Here’s everything we know about the rumored DQ Valentine’s Day releases this year.
What is the DQ Red Velvet Cake Blizzard?
Dairy Queen fans have an extra reason to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, according to food blogger @Markie_Devo. The fast food chain is speculated to be bringing back a beloved Blizzard as its February Blizzard of the Month just in time for the romantic holiday.
On January 16, Devo teased the return of the fan-favorite Red Velvet Cake Blizzard (as well as the Red Velvet Cupid Cake’s comeback), joking in the post’s caption that “Dairy Queen is kicking off baby making season early” this year.
According to Devo, the Red Velvet Cake Blizzard features pieces of crumbled red velvet cake and swirls of cream cheese icing mixed into the signature DQ vanilla soft serve base. Though there’s been no official announcement from DQ, Devo speculates that the Red Velvet Cake Blizzard and Cupid Cake are coming “back for a limited time” and notes that the flavor has been spotted in some Dairy Queens already.
Originally introduced in 2014, the Red Velvet Cake Blizzard has been a hit among DQ fans for the last decade, with several customers taking to social media to plead for the flavor’s permanent addition to the menu.
“Please bring this back soon!” Instagram user @_blk_goddess_ commented on a 2022 post from Dairy Queen Canada. “It was the best thing I ever had.”
What is the Valentine’s Day DQ Cupid Cake?
According to a 2024 article from AllRecipes, the DQ Cupid Cake is a “heart-shaped Blizzard Cake [that] starts with a layer of vanilla soft serve, then gets a layer of red velvet cake pieces and cream cheese icing before being finished with a layer of the Red Velvet Cake Blizzard itself—and adorable Valentine’s-themed decorations, of course.”
Last year’s Red Velvet Blizzard Cupid Cake was two servings, making it the perfect addition to your Valentine’s date night or dessert to share with your Galentine.
When is the DQ Red Velvet Cake Blizzard coming back?
Luckily, the return of the fan favorite DQ Red Velvet Blizzard might be closer than we think. Devo’s post suggests that, while both items are available at some locations now, customers can expect both the Red Velvet Cake Blizzard and Cupid Cake to be on sale at DQs nationwide beginning in February. According to a 2024 Instagram post from Dairy Queen, the Red Velvet Cake Blizzard made a triumphant return to franchises on January 30 of last year, so fans might get lucky and have access to the Blizzard of the Month a few days before the official start of February.
