Here’s How To Make The Viral Popping Candied Cranberries From TikTok

Remember when sugar-coated grapes were all the rage? Well, TikTok has done it again with a new viral dessert that’s just as easy to make but even more delicious — candied cranberries. This sweet and tangy treat has taken over social media with creators sharing countless ways to customize the flavor to suit your taste. Whether you prefer a hint of citrus, a touch of buzz, or a classic sugary glaze, there’s a recipe variation for everyone. These bite-sized bursts of flavor are perfect for the holidays or as a fun snack any time of year, and they’re quickly becoming a favorite in the world of TikTok food trends.

What are candied cranberries?

Essentially, candied cranberries are a holiday treat made by soaking cranberries in a liquid of choice (often a sparkling beverage to give it that pop) and layering them with powdered sugar. The process is simple but allows for plenty of creativity — some people soak the cranberries in flavored syrups like vanilla or orange, while others experiment with festive liquors to add a grown-up twist. The result is a tangy, sweet, and slightly crunchy treat that is as fun to make as it is to eat. This treat has become a favorite not just for its taste, but also for its aesthetic. The sugared coating creates a frosted look that makes the cranberries perfect for garnishing holiday desserts, cocktails, or charcuterie boards.

TikTok creator @cookiterica first brought the candied cranberries into the spotlight in late November when she shared her Russian grandmother’s recipe. The trend quickly gained popularity as more people tried making the treat themselves, drawn in by the satisfying “snap” of the sugar-coated cranberries.

To replicate the original version of this viral treat, you’ll need cranberries, Prosecco, orange juice, and powdered sugar. Start by placing the cranberries into a container. Pour in enough Prosecco and orange juice to fill the container about ¾ of the way, ensuring the cranberries are fully submerged. Let them soak for approximately 12 hours.

Once the cranberries have soaked, strain them thoroughly, shaking off as much liquid as possible. Transfer the cranberries to a clean container and generously coat them with powdered sugar (no need to measure — just follow your heart). Shake the container well to ensure each cranberry is evenly coated. The goal is to have them resemble powdered munchkins.

Next, arrange the cranberries on a baking pan and bake them in the oven at 200°F for five to seven minutes. This step lightly sets the sugar coating, giving the cranberries their signature festive look and flavor. Once they’ve cooled, they’re ready to enjoy — sweet, tangy, and perfect for the season.

TikToker @joyce has introduced another way to make popping candied cranberries without alcohol. She starts by soaking fresh cranberries in Starry, a crisp lemon-lime soda, allowing them to absorb the sweet and tangy flavor overnight. Once fully infused, she coats the cranberries in powdered sugar, giving them a delicate, snowy layer. To finish, she bakes them for just five minutes, transforming the berries into a mouthwatering treat with a perfectly balanced crunch and sweetness.
