Sweet Treats to make in your Dorm Suite

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Cornell chapter.

Got a major sweet tooth? Same here! There’s nothing like a little treat after dinner or a midday pick-me-up, but let’s be real—dining hall cookies and ice cream get old fast. That’s why this list of super easy, microwave and fridge-friendly desserts you can make in minutes, right in your dorm room will be your BFF. From gooey mug cakes to apple nachos, these options are quick, fun, and guaranteed to satisfy. You don’t need any fancy ingredients — just the basics you’ve already got stashed in your room.

Frozen Yogurt Bark

Ingredients: Greek yogurt, granola, chocolate chips

To make this frozen yogurt bark, spread out your Greek yogurt onto a plate and sprinkle it with granola, chocolate chips, or any other topping of your choosing. Place your Greek yogurt in the freezer for at least 3 hours and remove when the yogurt is completely solid. Break into small pieces and enjoy! Store in the freezer.

Apple Nachos

Ingredients: An apple, nut butter, chocolate chips, coconut flakes

These apple nachos are super simple to make and a great way to get in some fruit for the day. Simply cut your apple into slices on a plate and drizzle nut butter over top or dip the slices into the nut butter as you eat. Top with chocolate chips or coconut flakes and enjoy!

Trail Mix

Ingredients: Nuts, dried fruit, chocolate chips, pretzels, cereal

Making your own trail mix is a great way to enjoy a simple and customizable snack. For this recipe, simply mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and enjoy. Feel free to get creative with the add-ins but these ingredients are some of my favorites!

Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

Ingredients: Strawberries, coconut oil, milk/dark chocolate chips

Who doesn’t love chocolate-covered strawberries? They’re even better when they can be made right in the comfort of your dorm. First, melt the chocolate chips of your choice and coconut oil in the microwave in thirty-second intervals until fully melted. Then, dip the strawberries in the melted chocolate mixture and place on a plate. Put the chocolate-dipped strawberries in the fridge for at least an hour or until the chocolate has hardened. Enjoy and store in the fridge.

Oreo Mug Cake

Ingredients: Oreo cookies, milk, and Nutella

This Oreo mug cake recipe is incredibly easy to make and tastes like a warm gourmet chocolate cake. First, mash up 2-3 Oreos in a microwave-safe cup and add a splash of milk. The consistency should be thick and not too thin. Microwave in thirty-second intervals until the consistency resembles that of a cake. Enjoy warm and drizzle with Nutella.

What makes these recipes so great is their incredible flexibility. You can easily swap out ingredients depending on what you have in your dorm. The possibilities are endless, and you can tailor each recipe to your cravings or your dorm pantry. No matter what, I hope this list helps curb your sweet tooth, just like it did for me, and brings a little joy to your busy day!
