Lovebird cereal is more than just a breakfast choice—it’s a brand with purpose. By providing nutritious, grain-free cereals made from real, whole ingredients, Lovebird encourages a healthy lifestyle that resonates with wellness-focused consumers. What distinguishes this company from others is its dedication to helping others. Each year, Lovebird donates 20% of its net profits to childhood cancer research, meaning that with each purchase, Lovebird is not only gaining a customer but supporting a significant cause. In this review, we’ll be sampling four of their flavors—Cocoa, Strawberry, Honey, and Cinnamon—and evaluating how each one stands up in terms of both taste and mission.

Cocoa

First on the chopping block is Lovebird’s Cocoa cereal. Made only with cassava (a starchy nutty root vegetable), coconut sugar, cacao, coconut oil, vanilla, and sea salt, the cereal boasts a straightforward ingredient list. Upon first look, the cereal is reminiscent of Cheerios. The cereal is crispy, with a satisfying crunch on the first bite. In terms of taste, the cereal has a mildly sweet chocolate flavor. The taste buds aren’t overwhelmed with sweetness and the cereal processes a comforting—and addicting—quality that would be perfect for mindlessly snacking on while studying. All in all, this flavor comes highly recommended.

Strawberry

Lovebird’s Strawberry cereal delivers a fruity twist on traditional breakfast flavors. The dominant strawberry notes are immediately evident, offering a subtle sweetness that is soon followed by a tangy lemon aftertaste, creating a well-balanced flavor profile (though it’s worth mentioning that strawberry and lemon is the favorite flavor combination of this slightly biased author). The base of cassava, a nutrient-dense root vegetable, contributes a light crispness while promoting gut health. The combination of these elements makes this flavor not only enjoyable but also beneficial for digestive well-being. Its clean ingredient list and refreshing taste ensure it stands out as a unique option for those seeking both flavor and functionality in their cereal choices.

Honey

At first bite, Lovebird’s Honey cereal may appear understated, but its flavor builds as you continue, eventually leaving a distinct honey aftertaste that underscores the use of organic raw honey. Unlike many cereals, it avoids high-potency sweeteners such as stevia or monk fruit, instead embracing the natural sweetness of honey. While the initial flavor may seem unsatisfactory to some, the lack of artificial sweeteners or “natural” flavors aligns with Lovebird’s commitment to providing a truly clean and wholesome product. For those who appreciate naturally sweetened options, this cereal offers a satisfying balance of flavor and nutrition. Others may find the honey flavor too overwhelming altogether.

Cinnamon

The cinnamon flavor, while promising in concept, presents a more challenging profile. The cinnamon is undeniably strong, but the flavor lacks balance, resulting in a somewhat papery aftertaste that detracts from the overall experience. Despite this, the cereal adheres to Lovebird’s standards of being organic, grain-free, gluten-free, and free of refined sugars. Although the flavor didn’t resonate as strongly as the others, it offers a clean, allergy-friendly option for those who prioritize health and wellness in their diets. Lovebird’s commitment to quality ingredients remains evident, even if this particular flavor may not be to everyone’s taste.

Lovebird isn’t just about providing clean, grain-free cereals—it’s about making a difference in the fight against pediatric cancer. With 47 children diagnosed with cancer every day and only 4% of federal funding allocated to childhood cancer research, Lovebird steps up by donating 20% of its net profit to support research and families in need. Through these contributions, totaling $21,000 so far, the brand remains committed to its mission, even before achieving profitability.

As for the cereals themselves, Lovebird’s offerings bring a diverse range of flavors. If you’re seeking a flavor recommendation, I’d point you toward the cocoa—its mildly sweet, crisp chocolate flavor makes it both a comforting snack and a standout option. However, it’s important to note that this is not the sugary snack that would fulfill the cravings for Cheerios or Fruit Loops. Lovebird’s cereals nourish the body and contribute to a much larger cause—making them a worthwhile addition to your pantry (especially for those who prioritize gut-healthy eating).
