How To Get The Most Out of Tea

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UC Berkeley chapter.

For the true tea fanatic, tea seems to be the perfect drink for any occasion. Even as spring rolls around with sunny and 75° days, the slightest breeze or shady spot offers the perfect excuse to brew a steaming mug of tea. From calming teas like jasmine green to bold, unusual variations of black tea like Blood Orange (English Tea Store) or Sangria Punch (Teavana) Black Tea, Spoon has got the perfect brew for every occasion.

1. The final study stretch before the midterm

Nothing screams tea like studying at 3am for the midterm that just snuck up on you. For all the “How can we be having a midterm already? Class just started!” moments of panic, a cup of green tea flavored with lemon or ginger relieves stress and soothes the nerves and has the added bonus of having less caffeine than an average cup o’ joe.

2. Getting ready for a night out on the town

Getting ready for a fun night out calls for fruit flavored black teas that aren’t strong or overwhelming. Black tea is perfect for the extra caffeine kick, and the fruity flavor will make you instantly forget about that extra long day you just had.

3. Friday night movie club

Whether you’re watching a fun classic like Birdcage or swooning over Tom Cruise in Top Gun, an iconic movie pairs best with a rich, chocolatey tea that satisfies all your dessert cravings without the added calories. For all the lazy Fridays following difficult weeks, treat yourself to friends, a movie, fuzzy blankets and chocolate tea.

4. Girls’ night in

Girls’ night in calls for full bodied, spice filled teas that pair well with chick flicks and oh-so-yummy desserts like these chocolate lava cakes. It is the perfect time to experiment with these unusually flavored teas that are surprisingly delicious. From pumpkin to cinnamon and nutmeg, you can’t go wrong with a spiced black tea.
