This Williamsburg Eatery Is a Relaxing Escape From the Bustle of Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at WM chapter.

Just a short stroll away from campus is healthy food haven, LOKAL. With its delicious, nutritious smoothies and lunch items, as well as yoga classes, it offers a holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle. Here you’ll find a beautiful café with an awesome philosophy. It’s time to eat LOKAL.

LOKAL revolves around locally-sourced, organic food. There are multiple vegan items on the menu, and one of the business’ aims is to create protein-based meals with healthy fats that will leave customers satiated. For example, the avocado toast comes with hummus, and the protein content of the homemade bread is always high. This ensures that everything on the menu is not only packed with flavor, but that it leaves customers’ appetites satisfied.

There are a number of wholesome options offered on the menu. LOKAL’s smoothies are a great pick-me-up between classes. The ‘Nutberry Apocalypse’ contains assorted berries, dates, ripened bananas, almonds,  and almond milk (which is made in store). LOKAL also serves smoothie bowls, hearty soups, sandwiches, muffins, and focaccia. The shop is a beautiful hang out space and hub of activity.

A central part of LOKAL is that the there is a strong relationship between the café and its suppliers. Owner Eric Christenson drives to North Carolina every month so he can choose the best flour based on its gluten and protein analysis. The close relationship between the café and its suppliers ensure that only the best ingredients are used.

Café and Community

There is a lot of engagement with the local and William & Mary community here. As well as grabbing lunch with friends here, the Praktice Yoga Studio downstairs offers donation-based yoga classes. Perfect for relaxing and revitalizing when your TWAMP life is taking its toll. Recent events have included a meditation session, Musik at LOKAL, and a collaboration with neighboring shop, The Spice & Tea exchange.

Lokal offers a sanctuary close to campus where you can relax and do some yoga followed by eating one of their satisfying soups or sandwiches. It has a strong emphasis on community. So why not drop by CW and eat LOKAL?
