Taco Bell recently opened in a couple of places in Delhi which makes it a lot easier for us to access some of our favorite delicacies. What also becomes easier is the speed and amount of calories we consume with each taco we stuff on.
You might be thinking what kind of a killjoy takes a dig at the cheesy, holy-guacamole goodness of tacos but after coming back from that one good, did we say good? We meant great meal, we decided to look up it’s calorie count and what we saw wasn’t exactly half as pleasing as the meal.
Before we move on here’s a fact you should keep in mind to realize the ‘gravity’ of this breakdown: The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that carbohydrates make up 45 to 65 percent of your total daily calories. So, if you get 2,000 calories a day, between 900 and 1,300 calories should be from carbohydrates. That translates to between 225 and 325 grams of carbohydrates a day.
Moving on…here is a calorie breakdown of five popular, if not the most popular items on Tacobell India’s menu:
1. Cheesy Double Decker Taco
A layer of soft tortilla with a crispy taco separate by oozing cheese and covered with vegetables or chicken sure sounds good but here’s what it costs you.
Vegetarian: 522.3 Calories, 53.7g Carbs and 29.8g Fat
Non Vegetarian: 492.0 Calories, 46.6g Carbs and 26.8g Fat
2. Chalupa
Crispy i.e fried pita bread in the shape of a taco filled with all the fillings you want.
Vegetarian (Bean) :407 Calories, 31.9g Carbs and 27.4g Fat
Non Vegetarian (Chipotle Chicken) : 396.5g Calories, 31g Carbs, and 23.5g Fat
3. Khathito
Fillings in a Paratha. It’s like a Mexican Kathi role but more.
Vegetarian (Fajita Paneer) : 574.9g Calories, 69.5g Carbs and 25.1g Fat
Non Vegetarian (Fajita Grilled Chicken): 550.6g Calories, 65.6g Carbs and 21.8g Fat
4. Burrito
There are a lot of varieties of this tortilla. Here is the popular and heaviest one.
Vegetarian (7 layers) : 820.8g Calories, 118.4g Carbs, and 32.1g Fat
Non Vegetarian (Chicken) : 881.4g Calories, 108.8g Carbs, and 33.7g Fat
5. Nachos
The jalapenos, the cheese and a dollop of cream. What’s not to love? probably this:
Vegetarian (XXL Topped Nachos, Beans) : 1041.3g Calories (this isn’t a typo), 111g Carbs and 60.3g Fat
Non Vegetarian (XXL Topped Nachos, Chicken) : 1007.3g Calories, 110.4g Carbs, and 51.8g Fat
