So it’s a Friday night and you’re downtown suffering from the late night munchies (drunchies)– where’s the first place you think to stop? As of now probably McDonald’s, Taco Bell or Canyon, but come next fall you may have a different answer.
That’s right folks, Pennsylvania’s beloved Sheetz is coming downtown for the convenience of every Penn Stater.
For those of you who don’t live in one of the six states that have Sheetz (Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina) and don’t know what Sheetz is, let me fill you in. It’s website describes it as a “kicked-up” convenient store, but I would go as far to say that it’s basically a gas station on steroids…in a good way.
Not only does it sell the usual snacks, chips, candy and beverages of a normal gas station, but it also has its own made-to-order section. Here you can make your own breakfast sandwiches, burgerz, subz, sandwiches, saladz, wrapz, nachoz, burritos, pizza, sliders, shwings, fryz and more. Not to mention there’s a self-serve coffee station and an espresso bar.
The store is open 24/7/365 and all menu items are available at all times of the day, no restrictions due to time. Currently there are five traditional Sheetz in the Centre Region, but none within two miles of downtown State College. The new downtown Sheetz on Pugh Street will open its doors in the Fall of 2015. Due to its location, you won’t be able to purchase gas there.
Instead, there will be a “beer cave,” which is exactly what it sounds like. A completely different section of the store that only sells, well, beer. I think most of the students will be okay with the trade-off. So tell me, where else can you find great quality grub with made-to-order food for every meal, at anytime of the day?
