The New App that Feeds You for Paying Attention in Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at PSU chapter.

Haven’t you always dreamed of getting paid for actually taking notes during class? Well, fellow dreamers, that hope has just become a reality, although the reward isn’t necessarily money. Introducing Pocket Points, the app that will give you access to coupons and special deals for local eateries as long as you don’t touch your phone in class.

The app was developed by two students, Rob Richardson and Mitch Gardner, who are currently studying at Chico State University. They noticed the ever-increasing problem of students focusing more on their phones than their professors during class and decided to do something about it. Rob and Mitch, we like the way you think. And the way you got so many local restaurants and businesses on board.

Here’s how it works: After you’ve downloaded the free app and enabled location services and notifications on your smartphone, open Pocket Points whenever you’re sitting in an academic building on campus (Pro tip: Libraries count as academic buildings, so open the app while you’re studying to get maximum benefit). Once your phone is locked, a timer will keep track of how long you keep your hands off of your device.

When you’re finished with class, just swipe to unlock your phone, go to the opened app and see how many points you’ve earned in the time that you paid attention. Eventually, you’ll earn enough points to purchase discounts and deals for multiple restaurants downtown, including places like D.P. Dough, Pita Pit, Rotelli’s and Underground Burgers & Crêpes. And we’re not talking about little deals that save you a few dimes. Pocket Points brings out the big guns with options such as free appetizers and buy-one-get-one-free entrées.

But wait. It gets better.

The more people on campus who are using the app, the faster you’ll earn points. That means you need to tell everyone you know to download the app so you can get free food sooner.

It’s a win-win-win: your grades, your stomach and your wallet will thank you.

Check out the app for yourself for more information, or visit this website if you’re skeptical and thinking it’s just too good to be true.
